One advantage of the hyper-accelerated is that it avoids the Rossolimo, as Arkhein points out.

I don't mind facing 4.Qxd4, but it would be interesting to discuss some lines.

Fightingdragon and Arkhein: after 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 g6 3.d4 cd4: 4.Nd4: Bg7 5.c4 Nc6 6.Be3 Nf6 7.Nc3 0-0 8.Be2 b6 9.0-0 Bb7 10.f3 black has a number of tries: e6 is only one of them. I'll post more later today when I have more time.

Another interesting question which could be worth its own thread:
What do people here think of 4.Qd4:!? against the hyper-accelerated dragon?  Huh

I have started playing the Hyper-accelerated Dragon some and have had success with it. Most of the people I play aren't as booked up on the Dragon (one Yugoslav gamein the last two years), and the games go crazy, but Alburt's Chess Openings for Black, Explained is an excellent repertiore book featuring the Hyper-Accel, and he has some good replies to 4. Qd4 based on ...Nf6. It is worth checking out. I have beaten stronger opponents with it.

"Against the Maroczy I play the b6-variation which leads to non-stereotyped positions:
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 g6 3.d4 cd4: 4.Nd4: Bg7 5.c4 Nc6 6.Be3 Nf6 7.Nc3 0-0 8.Be2 b6 9.0-0 Bb7 10.f3 e6!? and in almost every case black will push d7-d5. "

It seems to be a sort of hedgehog with a kingside fianchetto, which is not the most classical, but it happens in the Sicilian Kan.

"What do people here think of 4.Qd4:!? against the hyper-accelerated dragon?"

Yes this move seems interesting and it is one of the reason I don't play 2..g6 to reach the accelerated dragon. I play 2..Nc6, but it has a disadvantage compared to 2..g6: the Rossolimo is possible. But 2..Nc6 is probably more flexible than 2..g6, to fight against 3.c3 for example.

And I wanted to point out something : when somebody see 2..Nc6 he usually think he will face one of the strongest system : the Sicilian Sveschnikov. And one of the anti-sveschnikov reaction is to play 3.Nc3, no? (Or there is also other mover-orders tricks like 1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.Nf3 where Najdorf players would not be the most happy). So 3..g6 here and there will be an accelerated dragon if White plays d4, without maroczy bind. So it could be a weapon to use in theses cases if the one is so afraid about the maroczy bind?

Of course 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 g6 5.Nc3 is the second best system, but Black have somes different ways to face it.

I sometimes play the hyper-accelerated dragon instead of the normal dragon.
But the reason in my case is not that I'm afraid of 9.0-0-0 but that I like to have some diversity.

Against the Maroczy I play the b6-variation which leads to non-stereotyped positions:
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 g6 3.d4 cd4: 4.Nd4: Bg7 5.c4 Nc6 6.Be3 Nf6 7.Nc3 0-0 8.Be2 b6 9.0-0 Bb7 10.f3 e6!? and in almost every case black will push d7-d5.
Look in the database for Guseinov's and Gashimov's games.

Another interesting question which could be worth its own thread:

the Maroczy is difficult to play for Black at classical time controls. Black tends to run out of moves imho then he gets into a middlegame zugzwang!

the following game is interesting, White won with a pawn storm in the Maroczy(!), after Black spun an inferior endgame:

E. Alekseev (2644)-V. Malakhov (2690), 59th Russian Championship Tomsk RUS 2006.09.11 Round 9
1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 g6 5. c4 Nf6 6. Nc3 d6 7. Be2 Nxd4
8. Qxd4 Bg7 9. Be3 O-O 10. Qd2 Be6 11. Rc1 Qa5 12. f3 Rfc8 13. b3 Rab8 14.
g4 Kf8 15. g5 Nd7 16. Nd5 Qa3 17. Kf2 Bxd5 18. exd5 a5 19. h4 a4 20. h5
axb3 21. axb3 Qb2 22. Rc2 Qxb3 23. hxg6 hxg6 24. Bd4 Bxd4+ 25. Qxd4 f6 26.
Rb2 Qa3 27. Qh4 Ke8 28. Qh8+ Nf8 29. gxf6 Rc7 30. Rh4 exf6 31. Qxf6 Re7 32.
c5 Qxc5+ 33. Kg2 b5 34. Rh8 Rf7 35. Bxb5+ Qxb5 36. Qe6+ 1-0

My reason to prefer the Acc. Dragon was of course the 9.0-0-0 variation. Against the Maroczy Variation I played the very unsolid 5...Bg7 6.Be3 Nf6 7.Nc3 Ng4 8.Qxg4 Nxd4 9.Qd1 e5. What is the status of this variation today?

I'd like to know what you think of the b6-lines?

It it true that the Maroczy is a strong reply, but I think the one who play the accelerated dragon plays it because he like to face it! (I don't believe the only reason accelerated dragons players wants just to have a dragon without Yugoslav attack, or want to push ..d5 in one move, they are aware of the strongness of the maroczy, so they like to face it, I guess). Tiviakov is/has been a very good specialist! This is a very solid defense, and I think this is the reason accelerated dragon doesn't fear the maroczy bind that much. They are a lot of drawish lines, but it should be true to say that White should be able to get a small advantage. If I had to take the accelerated dragon in my repertoire, it would be as "drawing repertoire", because you rarely can win as Black compared to the Najdorf, normal Dragon, Sveschnikov...

There are a few old threads on the Accelerated here; f you search for them they should come up.  The Maroczy bind is the main reason why I avoid it but I would be happy to hear others' ideas on the matter; the last time this came up I don't recall being convinced that Black had a plan which made sense to me.  Something more concrete would probably get a few more replies...

In this forum we see mostly standard dragons, probably because it is a lot more popular and funnier than the accelerated dragon! I am getting interested in the accelerated dragon as a solid weapon(Gurgenidze system against the maroczy), and I would know if there is some people who love that opening, so we could discuss about the maroczy bind, the uogele, etc...
