Not sure if I should be asking this question here so my apologies if I wasn't suppose to. I never used e-books before and i'm a little confused as to how I am suppose to use it in a ChessBase interface.

Scheveningen 6.Bd3

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 d6 6.Bd3

Black has two basic approaches.  Classical-style with 6..Nc6 and Najdorf-style with 6..a6.  6..Be7 is also playable and usually transposes.

I. 6..Nc6

7.Be3

Two options:
(i) 7.Nb3 Be7 8.O-O O-O 9.f4 a6 10.Qf3 Qc7 with a normal-looking Scheveningen position.

(ii) 7.Nxc6 bxc6 8.O-O Be7 9.f4 (9. Qe2 O-O 10. Na4 d5 11. e5 Nd7 12. f4 Nc5 = Zapata-Acosta, Bogota 1980) 9... O-O 10. Kh1 Qc7 11. b3 Nd7 12. Qe1 Nc5 13. Bb2 Qd8 14. Be2 Bb7 15. Qd2 Bf6 16. Qe3 Nd7 17. Rad1 d5 was Kristensen-Sax, Vejle 1994

7... Be7

(7... e5 is also playable)

8.f4

(8.O-O O-O 9.f4 Nxd4 10.Bxd4 e5 11.Be3 Ng4 12.Qf3 Nxe3 13. Qxe3 exf4 14. Qxf4 Bf6 15. Qd2 Be6 16. Nd5 Bxb2 17. Rab1 Bd4+ 18.Kh1 b6 19. c4 Be5 20. Qe3 Rc8 21. Rb3 g6 22. Ra3 Qd7 23. Be2 with advantage to Black in Durao-Andersson, Nice (Ol) 1974)

9... bxc6 10. fxe5 dxe5 11. O-O Ng4 12. Qf3 O-O 13. Bc4 Nxe3 14. Qxe3 Bg5 was Krsek-Brod, Hradek Karlove 1994.

II. 6..a6

7. O-O

(i) 7.f4 Nbd7 transposes to B82, 6.f4 a6 7.Bd3 Nbd7

(ii) 7.Be3 b5 8. a3 Bb7 9. O-O Nbd7 10. f4 Be7 (10... Rc8) 11. Qf3 Rc8 12. Rae1 O-O also transposes to B82, 6.f4 a6 7.Be3 b5 8.Qf3 Bb7 9.Bd3 Nbd7 10.a3 Rc8 11.0-0 Be7 12. Rae1 0-0

(iii) 7. Bg5 Be7 (transposes to a minor line of the Bg5 Najdorf,
normally reached after 5..a6 6.Bg5 e6 7.Bd3 Be7) now--

(8. f4 h6 9. Bh4 Nxe4 10. Bxe7 Nxc3 11. Qg4 Qxe7 12. Qxg7 Qf8 13. Qxf8+ Rxf8 14. bxc3 Nd7 with an edge for Black, Emms)

(8.0-0 O-O 9. Re1 b5 isn't mentioned by Emms, but has scored well for Black)

Back to the main line:

7...Nbd7

Options:
(i) 7... b5 is a line from the Kan.  Play might continue 8. a4 b4 9. Na2 e5

(ii) 7... Qc7 8. f4 b5 9. a3 Bb7 10. Be3 Nbd7 11. Qf3 Nc5 12. Rae1 Be7 13. Kh1 O-O 14. Bg1 Rfe8 15. Qh3 Bf8 16. Nf3 Nxd3 17. cxd3 h6 18. Rc1 Qd7 19. Bd4 e5 20. fxe5 dxe5 21. (iii) 8. a4 b6 9. f4 Bb7 10. Qf3 (10. Qe2 Nc5! Emms) 10... Nc5 (10... g6 11. Nb3 Bg7 12. Qh3 Qc7 13. Be3 h5 (13... O-O 14. f5 Rae8 = Emms) 14. Kh1 Ng4 15. Bg1 Nc5 was unclear in Semeniuk-Rublevsky, Russia 1999) 11. Be3 Rc8 12. Rae1 Be7 13. Kh1 Qd7 14. Bg1 g6 = Westerinen-King, London 1988

8... b5 9. a3 Bb7 10. f4 Be7 11. Qe2

Options
(i) 11. b4!? Anand notes that this is risky.  It fixes the pawn structure in White's favor, as it lets him play a4, but it weakens the c4 square. 11..O-O 12.Bb2 Rc8 13. Yes, quite agree.

That said, French Fan, if you think there are lines omitted from the Scheveningen book, post them here and we'll see if the Forum members can help fill them in.

I'll even start the ball rolling with a Bd3 variation!  Wink

Well done! The ultimative Chesspublishing experience would be monthly updated playable e-books and pdf-e-books. This is certainly a lot of work but also a superb service for the customers.

I would not mind paying a little more for that. Furthermore I think we the customers should also try to help Tony Kosten to keep this thing running on high quality - which means bringing in more subscribers. Someone willing to start a thread on that (or am I alone with such thoughts?)?

Exactly so! You have read my mind.  Tongue One thing, though. The books should cover all the lines and not only those that have become the recent GM fashion. What is my point? I mean, there are some lines uncovered over here, such as 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 Bc4 Nf6 4 Ng5 d5 5 exd5 Na5 6 Bd3!? and there are even a bunch of GMs who employ it, i.e. Nigel Short, Evgeny Sveshnikov, Daniel Stellvagen, etc. The Polugaevsky line is covered only briefly, etc., etc. I know, it's so much hard work to meet all of the demands, so I'm leaving it to you.

These lines you mention are hardly popular on GM-level. 6 Bd3 is a sideline of the two knights defence which isn't that popular to begin with at that level. The Polugaevsky is really in the doghouse ... .

Seeing that already brought this up in the Antoshin topic in the e4 e5 subforum, please don't hijack every topic to complain that your favorite offbeat lines aren't properly covered.

With some luck they'll get a game now and then but they are hardly cutting-edge from a theoretical viewpoint.

I agree, and this is certainly possible with the new Game Quotation ones, however, the problems have already been mentioned on the Discussion thread.

After a long break there's a new playable eBook to download! Cheesy

Good news! I find playable ebooks much more convenient to use: easy and quick to read.
