I seem to recall from the book that there is an optimum move order for White to which this plan isn't so good. Hence the 'unsound'.
I'm guessing Rc1/Bd3 was this optimum move sequence mentioned (don't have to hand) and hence that game going well for White.
The book does recommend that line against other sequences though, but maybe find an alternative in that specific case where it doesn't work so well.
I too quite like the plan, and it worked ok in it's one outing against an opponent 180 pts higher. (Only a draw though).

In Andrew Greet's book Starting Out: The Accelerated Dragon one of the chapters is devoted to
1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 g6 5.  c4 Bg7 6. Be3 Nf6
7.  Nc3  Ng4

and in that chapter one of the lines he recommended he found effective but thought might be unsound, namely

8.  Qxg4 Nxd4 9.Qd1 Ne6  10. Rc1  Qa5  with a plan of pushing the g pawn to secure the e5 square for his pieces.

However at the end of the chapter he provided a 2003 correspondence game  between Ilczuk/Kristol where he felt white had refuted this line.
The game continued 11. Bd3 g5 12. 0-0 b6 13. Bd2 Qe5 14. b4 Bb7 15. Nd5

I'd like to open a discussion about this line to see if anyone can shed any additional insight/opinions.
