A remark: If the game data is without annotations one should always prefer downloading the pgn-format. CB or CA formats make sense for additional information created by those proprietary formats. The same holds for the SCID-Format. There is a topic here about missing features of pgn. But for exchange of games and discussions nothing beats it, because you can use it everywhere.

And it's really really easy to combine a bunch of pgn files together. They're just so much easier to work from - if you just have raw games.

There doesn't seem to be an easy solution after all.

1. Open all *.cbv in one directory. You'll get a lot of files.
2. Use free commander or something else and select the *.cbh files with two clicks.
3. Create a new directory and copy all *.cbh files to this directory.
4. Create a new base and add all *.cbh-files to this new base.

Search millionbase via google. Someone in another forum told the missing twic-files are a part of it. I haven't checked that.

I don't have any .cbv files to try this, but I was wondering if it would work like .pgn files in a command prompt with all the files in same directory?

copy *.cbv all.cbv

If you had of downloaded all the pgn files instead of cbv files you could append them all in a one line command, I realise this may not be much use to you now, but generally if your intending to join a large number of files you're better off with the pgn.

That´s strange. I´m using Chessbase 9 and it works perfectly here. Did you try all the 803 files at once? Perhaps you should try a much lower number...

Mine is Chessbase version 10.

All the 803 .cbv files at once as a try? Smiley Nope. Even when I try it with only 2 files, it doesn't work. Sad

this method never works in chessbase. It always causes errors.

You can do the following:

1. Press "Strg+O"
2. Choose the folder of the cbv-files
3. Select the files you want to open and press enter

Now all the cbv-files you selected will be opened and you can follow up with Tony´s advice.  Smiley

Maybe you need to select "Open" with your mouse instead. Chessbase should be able to do this from the "Open Database" dialog box, but with 803 files it could take some time.

Most of the games in TWIC will have found their way into Chessbase databases (Mega, Big) anyway; I think only the newest TWICs will give you new, non-redundant games.

That method, which otherwise works fine with .pgn/.cbh files, doesn't work here. Nothing happens in the case of these .cbv archives. I had tried it. (The result of the process is the same empty database.)

TWIC--downloading and searching

I have downloaded all issues (#001-#863). (Not by hand, of course.)
But now I have 863 separate databases, in .cbv format at that...

The question.
How can I convert them into a single database?
(The aim of the download was to find certain games that I had otherwise been unable to find in other sources (chesslive.de / Big2010 / MegaBase / etc).)
