In the Two Knights' Defense White has realistic chances to secure a plus in most variations, but in the 8.Qf3 variation no one has demonstrated a clear advantage for White.

This variation looks promising in most variations, but in one critical variation, Black has easy equality: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Nf6 4.Ng5 d5 5.exd5 Na5 6.Bb5+ c6 7.dxc6 bxc6 8.Qf3 Be7! (White has three basic choices here 9.Bxc6+, 9.Be2, and 9.Bd3)

9...Nxc6 10.Qxc6+ Bd7 11.Qf3 Rc8! (Slightly more accurate than O-O 12.Nc3 according to GM Roman Dzindzichasvili) 12.O-O O-O 13.Nc3 Ng4! (Bb4) 14.Nh3 Rc6 =

9.Be2 Bg4 10.Qd3 Qxd3 11.Bxd3 Nd5 =

9.Bd3 O-O 10.O-O g6! (This is more accurate than 10...h6 because h6 allows the resource 11.Ne4/Ng3/Bf5; now the threat of Nd5 is difficult to meet. According to GM Roman Dzindzichasvili this is equal.

Where did Dzinzi state these things?

I asked Roman to look at this opening using Houdini 3 running on multiple cores.

Who claimed that 8.Qf3 leads to an advantage?

I seem to remember the OP did so quite heavily

8...Rb8 seems to be pretty good for Black, but 8...Be7 is obviously more logical, and does seems to score really well for Black.

Maybe that's why 8.Be2 is played about 70% of the time in games between masters.

Who claimed that 8.Qf3 leads to an advantage? Nunn considers 6...c6 to be good enough for an unclear/equal position at best.
