This is also katar' Mill Base:

http://katar.weebly.com/blog/millbase-for-scid-update2

It's only in SCID format, but it can be easily converted if needed.

Anyway, a very interesting discovering, that King Base.

Salut,

"KingBase is a new free chess games collection, usable with most free and commercial chess programs.
Every month, new chess games are added, existing entries are revised and duplicated games are removed.

KingBase is a free alternative to commercial products, but has some limitations:

No annotated games.
No games with less of 6 moves.
No games before 1990.
No games with ELO-rating < 2000.

KingBase (05/2015)

OVER 1.6 MILLION MODERN GAMES (YEAR > 1990), PLAYERS ELO > 2000
PGN Format
(multiple files order by ECO Code)

SCID Format
(works with SCID and SCID forks)

CBV Format

Does anyone have any difficulties downloading? On my Mac, it slows down everything and I cannot get it to save the download over to hard drive.
On my PC at work, the filters are blocking the site when I run on Firefox.
On my old PC laptop running Chrome, nothing happens ……
But thanks Vass for the effort.

Many thanks Vass. Yesterdayevening I already downloaded the full package of Twics in one go. No more harassing with unpacking zipfiles, copy paste... This wins me a lot of time. I bookmarked the site.

I don't really know how relevant the other databases are for me. I chose not to download them as I prefer to work with 1 database and I fear that merging them will lead to lots of duplicates. Removing automatically duplicates with the Fritz GUI is not possible (to my knowledge). This could be a good case to anyway choose for the Chessbase package (in the assumption such automatic tool of removing duplicates is available).

Duplicates are for a search through a database not really disturbing. However I do use the same database to build up my openingbook and use the statistics to prepare for games (not blindly of course but it gives a first indication where to search). Duplicates do mess up (at least a bit) the statistics. I also understand for correspondence chess in which time is less critical, this problem is not relevant.

Any further advice is welcome !

Vass, i am really impressed by your network !

Vass, what exactly are these databases? What sort of games are collected?
