Can the poll be edited to fix Kevin Goh Wei Ming's name? It's one person.

In my opinion, there are two books that sees out very well: Tony's book on the Kalashnikow Sicilian and Awrukh's book on Classical Slaw with 4...dxc4. I gave the choice to Tony's book although I debated myself because it was too close, but the fact that Kalashnikow Sicilian as an opening itself compared with Classical Slaw amongst 2300+ is not considered (right or fel), completely sound, as in if you ask yourself the question, ,,Would I play this against a >2500+ GM, in the last round of a tournament?" and although I would do this without question for the Classical Slaw, the 4...e5 Sicilian really needs some convincing. I think that Tony's book had to add that extra analysis for convincing, and did it successfully.

I voted for Tony Rotella's impressive book although i have the feeling that most probably Negi deserves the first place. I was at Tromso after the publication of the book and everyday i was hearing people going to Negi and tell him "hey, check out my game, i used your repertoire" and i am talking about 2600+ GMs!

What i wanted to say also, is how much disapointed i am about Bologan's book. Of course it is very valuable to have the opinion of such an outstanding GM in all these classical positions and the book has to offer a lot of good stuff, but the negatives are so many that i really don't think it deserves the title of the Opening Book of the Year. This would have seen to me like an insult! Don't get me wrong, i like Bologan as a person and i have liked many of his works (particularly the Caro Kann Advance video was fantastic as well as the Catalan book), but this one was bellow the standars he had set.

So, for me it is either Tony of Parimarjan!

From what I could tell, seven books were nominated this year. If I missed any, please let me know as soon as possible.

The voting will close at midnight, February 28th.

Please vote for only one book!

Yeah, The original timetable was February 28th. That still makes sense. I'll post the poll this weekend.

I would stay with the original timetable. If we are to read Negi from cover to cover we might all be here until August (and that's intended as a compliment).

Serious question:

Should we delay the vote until more people have had a chance to read the books that came out in late December?

Tony,
When I have your book digitally, I will be able to judge. I struggle with 3D. Nudge them along a bit...!

I'm going on the campaign trail! I should have ordered some foam fingers and started placing all of those super annoying signs in everyone's yard.

Shouldnt be a problem. It could be my imagination but there doesnt appear to be as many posts in the nominations thread as in previous years...although, maybe that is down to less controversy this time round...

I'll post the poll in the next day or two. We should have the votes tallied around February 15th this year.

I had earlier posted that the deadline for voting would be February 28th. If there are any objections to the date being moved up, please let me know!

If Bologan wins, he'd be the first to win with a book about the opening, right?

Well, it's not ChessCafe's opening book of the year. It would be excellent if Soltis beat Nunn after the latter trashed Soltis's ground-breaking Why Lasker Matters, a book which heavily altered thr reception of Lasker. One prolific chess author I know thinks Nunn is just jealous becaus Soltis, the worse player, has so many more popular books. Gee, I wonder why... could if be becuse Soltis has a good writer's ear and pedagogical sense,  whereas Nunn's ear is almost as horrendous as his estimate of the pedagogical level of his material?

Interestingly, Negi's book doesnt appear to have made the final list for ChessCafe's book if the year.

Bologan's black weapons, Nunn's course based on Lasker's games and Soltis's book on Botvinnik are their nominees.
