In anticipation of arrival of my book, I have been refactoring the decimation to replace the Rossolimo and see what the now 3 part plan looks like.

The deviation from the Shaw methodology would be to try to retain the English Attack vs. the some lines of the Taimanov. I think what stands out as the main issue, surprise surprise, is the Sveshnikov

OK, here's the new  list of "Decimation with Quality" ...

Plan 1: English Attack vs...

Najdorf
Classical
Schevenigen
Taimanov (with Nf6)
Dragon (Yugoslav here, but same plan)

Plan 2: Maroczy Bind vs

Kan
Kalashnikov
Accelerated Dragon
Hyper-Accelerated Dragon
O'Kelly

Plan 3: Individual Love...

Sveshnikov
Taimanov with a6
Lowenthal
Grivas
Nimzowitsch
Four Knights
Pin
Any other rubbish

Those who want to go by my perverse footsteps play such pawn structure with fuzzy atypical still strategic orientations

Plans 2 and 3 can also be combined sometimes; e.g. 1 e4 c5 2 Nf3 Nc6 3 Bb5 e6 4 0-0 Nge7 5 d4 cd4 6 Nxd4 with the idea of Be2 and c2-c4, aiming for a Maroczy with Black's Knight misplaced on e7.

Plan 1: The English Attack! Play Be3, support the center with f3, castle Queenside, hurl your g and h pawns forward and sac, sac mate!!

Plan 2: The Maroczy Bind! Create an unassailable bastion of pawns on e4 and c4, suffocate your opponent's counter play, crush them before you and hear the lamentations of their post game analysis!!

Plan 3: The Rossolimo! They Play Nc6? Put your Bishop on b5 and kill it. KILL IT!!

Plan 4: "Err hang on, didn't you say there were only 3 plans?" Yes, a fair cop, but some lines need a bit of individual lovin'  http://www.chesspub.com/yabbfiles/Templates/Forum/default/kiss.gif

OK, here's the list of death...

Plan 1: English Attack vs...

Najdorf
Classical
Schevenigen
Taimanov (with Nf6)
Dragon (OK, it's called the Yugoslav here, but same plan)

Plan 2: Maroczy Bind vs

Kan
Accelerated Dragon
Hyper-Accelerated Dragon
Hyper-Hyper Accelerated Dragon on Speed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arLHb6JHi7Q
O'Kelly

Plan 3: Rossolimo vs...

Sveshnikov
Kalashnikov
Lowenthal
Grivas
Whatever...that Nc6 is going to get it.

Plan 4: Individual Love

Taimanov with a6
Nimzowitsch
Four Knights
Pin
Any other rubbish

"Crush your enemies!!"

Checking the contents of "Playing 1.e4 - Sicilian Main Lines" by John Shaw reminded of my plan to decimate the Sicilian, except without the Rossolimo.

Yoink, have ordered the book as it looks like the update to English Attack mayhem from the orginal Dismantling the Sicilian that I really wanted!

Cool Cheesy Cool

I actually do this, to avoid 1. e4 e5=   Smiley

Decimating the Sicilian is not hard, provided you are much better prepared than the opponent in the given line, and the position is somewhat sharp. Take games such as Anand-Vachier Lagrave, Norway Chess 2015, or Radjabov-Grischuk, FIDE GP 2015.

If you are prepared to move 40 and still not achieving the desired decimation, the 1.Nf3 c5 2.e4 move order may provide the necessary boost to your results against this opening.  Grin

Here's an update to decimating the Siclian!

There is a new plan added to bring us up to a Furious Five!

Plan 5: Killed in Action! Some Sicilian style  d3 therapy needed maybe but go for the e6 brigade KIA style!!

So now we get the White lines according to Grandmaster Flash as...

Plan 1: English Attack vs...

Najdorf
Classical (sometimes)
Schevenigen
Dragon (OK, it's called the Yugoslav here, but same plan)

Plan 2: Maroczy Bind vs...

Hyper-Accelerated Dragon
O'Kelly

Plan 3: Rossolimo vs...

Sveshnikov
Kalashnikov
Lowenthal
Grivas
Accelerated Dragon (they have to go hyper)
Whatever...that Nc6 is going to get it.

Plan 4: Individual Love vs...

Classical (Raze them with the Rauzer!)
Nimzowitsch
Any other rubbish

Plan 5: KIA vs...

Taimanov
Kan
Four Knights
Pin

Be3 does not work vs classical, but i dont remember exact refutation. The Bishop should be at g5 instead.

Diligent decimation disciples dutifully determine divergences.

Go to g5 first, and then come back to e3 to launch the attack.

6. Be3 Ng4 7. Bb5 is an old book line, but I have an impression that it has gone from "unclear" to "dubious" or the like.  6. f3 is also a move.

Just 6 .. Ng4 it seems. Although, checking Yermolinsky, if we're settling for decimation (hardly a tough yardstick!) there's 7 Bb5 Nxe3 8 fe Bd7 9 o-o etc.......

Just to nitpick: The Nimzowitsch Sicilian is 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nf6, so it needs some individual love as well. Though 3.Bb5 might have some shock value  Smiley

Hmm, Yes, that Nimzowitsch is a slippery fellow and he switched sections on me  Roll Eyes

Something I'm thinking about is taking up these two plans. Tks for the list. Something to start with systematically.
