The Even More Flexible French, Moskalenko (20th July 2015)

Isn't that just an update of The Flexible French?

I think Berg's volume III on the French might be an eligible candidate though, "15 May 2015" according to the bookdepository. I don't have it myself, so this is not a nomination, unless someone else wants it to be...

The majority of the book is new, although it's still a fianchetto approach everywhere. He changed his recommendations in both the main line Catalan (6...dxc4 7.Qc2 a6 8.a4 replacing 8.Qxc4), the Bogo and Modern Benoni (Bf4 instead of Nd2 in the main line) which are what make up the book.

Not yet mentioned is 'The Catalan (GM Rep 1A) - Boris Avrukh (Quality Chess)'. I found it a very interesting book but perhaps is being overlooked since the first edition was so influential(?)

In general, second editions are not considered unless it's a complete rewrite of the original. I don't know, how much would you say is original material?

My favourites of the year have already been mentioned: Bologan's Ruy Lopez book, Lokander's Open Games effort and Smerdon's Scandinavian.

Not yet mentioned is 'The Catalan (GM Rep 1A) - Boris Avrukh (Quality Chess)'. I found it a very interesting book but perhaps is being overlooked since the first edition was so influential(?)

The Queen's Gambit Accepted by A.Delchev and S. Semkov. (chess-stars)
A small book which arms you with a solid defence.

I would like to nominate the below two books:

Houska: Opening Repertoire: The Caro-Kann. Very thorough and detailed descriptions giving good suggestions against Negi's feared new way of handling the caro-kann.
Williams: The Killer Dutch. Not detailed to the same extent but a personal and great book. I have never played the classical Dutch but reading the book gives a very good understanding of the concepts and the opening will definitely be in my repertoire as a surprise weapon.

My nomination: Kotronias's two volume set on the Kings Indian Mar Del Plata.  If I have to pick one of the volumes, then volume I. These came out in February and were the opening books I spent the most time with last year.

I haven't been all that busy with chess during 2015, but one book that impressed me - though I'm far from finished reading it, was Junior Tay's Old Indian - Move by Move (June/July 2015)

I noticed that Glenn Flear reviewed that book in the latest Yearbook, but I haven't seen it.  Wonder what he had to say.

Bologan's Black Weapons was also very good. And I fully agree on nominating Houska's and Sielecki's books.

So far, i also like Schandorff's book on The Semi-Slav, though it isn't easy at all to digest, which means I haven't read much of it yet Grin

Five opening books stood out for me in 2015:

Bologan's Ruy Lopez, by Victor Bologan (New in Chess, 08/2015)
Beating the Anti-Sicilians (GM Rep 6A), by Vassilios Kotronias (Quality Chess, 12/2015)
Opening Repertoire: The Caro-Kann, by Jovanka Houska (Everyman Chess, 02/2015)
Opening Repertoire: Nimzo and Bogo Indian, by Christof Sielecki (Everyman Chess, 06/2015)
The Queen's Indian Move by Move, by Lorin D'Costa (Everyman Chess, 12/2015) (I ought to say that I know the author)

I am aware that two of these only made it into 2015 by a few days.

I haven't nominated any other 2015 books by Quality Chess because I haven't read them; I don't doubt that they are all excellent.

I would like to nominate the second part of the e4 e5 bible by the great Victor Bologan:

Bologan's Ruy Lopez for Black
by Victor Bologan
published in November 2015 as far as I know

But I think that there is another book that I would favour for taking the existing theory huge steps forward:

Smerdon's Scandinavian
by David Smerdon
published 30 Sep 2015 (everymanchess.com)

ChessPub Book of the Year 2015!

Hi all!

It's that time of year again!

What books published for the first time in 2015 deserve to be considered for Chess Book of the Year?

Traditionally, ChessPub only focuses on Opening Books.

Please include the title, author, and date of publication in your nominations!
