A logical try seems what was played in the following game, where Black was totally fine out of the opening. We can transpose to it with 1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nd4 4.Nf3 e6, and to be honest i could never figure out why most people spurned this transposition.

Believe it or not, 6...Nc6 7.Be2 Nd4 is a good line as well, with the point that the knight is still safe on d4 when White cannot play Ne2 after Nxd4 cxd4.

Yes, my plan is to follow Palliser recomendations, the 6...Nc6 variation you pointed above.

Thx, TN

I use Tony's book as my main antisicilian source, also.

You only have to find something in the 1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nd4 4.Nf3 line. Very trendy lately...

Palliser's book (EverymanChess) gives active recommendation and takes into account move-orders very well. He doesn't cover Bb5 lines though.

Rogozenko's book gives very solid lines.

If you play 2...Nc6 and you are looking for one book, you could seriously consider The Killer Sicilian by TonyRo even if you don't play the Kalashnikov as it has 190 pages on the Anti-Sicilians. He goes with 3...Nf6 against the Rossolimo.

I've got Kotronias's book as well, but some of his recommendations are too difficult for a 2000ish player like me, and I use Tony's book as my main source.

Really? I always felt e6 Bxc6 gives good chances of an edge. Van Kampen recommended 4.0-0, didn't he?

Closed Sicilian is simple, pick your system, understand the middlegame plans, and away you go. You might also go for the Closed Sicilian setup with colours reversed with 1.c4 e5 if you really like the positions.

Against the Alapin, I think the 2...d5 systems with ...Nc6/...Bf5 are a good choice, they also fit in with 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.c3 d5. Otherwise the ...Nf6 systems are nothing for White, as long as you pick the right systems and move orders from there.

3...e6 seems to be best against the Rossolimo, it was the one line where Van Kampen couldn't really show anything in his videos.

Yes, I meant that more than 50% of my opponents go to the anti-Sicilians with White, the most popular being the Closed and Alapin Sicilians, but the Smith-Morra, too, is played. Very rare from my experience are other moves, such as 2.f4, 2.b3. 2.b4, 2.Ne2 and others. The Rossolimo (vs. my 2...Nc6) is a frequent choice by White!

I assume he means that it's difficult to play because 2.Nf3 and 3.d4 are becoming more and more rare.

Considering that it's increasingly more difficult to play the Open Sicilian with Black (at least from my experience), what is in your opinion the best book on the Anti-Sicilians for the Black player?

If the Open Sicilian is very difficult for you with Black, why are you focusing on the Anti-Sicilians and not the Open Sicilian?

Not sure about a single book. The latest one is Kotronias, but in general I'd say ChessPublishing is the best single source for the Anti-Sicilians period.
