Most major chess websites now (rather than brute-forcing through AGON) turned around and are just boycotting the GP altogether, posting no moves/news/articles/anything about it, as a form of protest/showcase of how much it helps to fight fellow chess promoters.

I sure hope AGON/FIDE learns from this.. it's a huge shame - for players, organizers, and the chess world. The lack of publicity could have notable consequences for everyone (eg Ding Liren is sort of unknown for an elite player and rarely gets top tournament invites despite being consistently in the Top10 - surely it would have done his chess career some good, if his stellar results in the GP were more prominent in the public eye); just a huge, sad, mess.

There's another scenario, if he passes Nakamura on rating (their averages so far are 2786.3 for Aronian and 2788.4 for Nakamura, but Aronian's live rating is currently 10 points over Naka's so that might be doable), and MVL qualifies from the Grand Prix, and two of So, Caruana and Kramnik reach the World Cup final, then Aronian will be the second qualifier on rating.

But that's quite a few ifs.

Aronian losing today to Harakrishna, does that mean the end of his chance to get to the candidates. If yes, then only chance is again for Armenia to stump up with the money and offer to hold the Candidates and nominate Aronian as wildcard? Is that correct?
