If you go here: https://worldchess.com/gp2017/ you can follow the games in real time for free.

The website shows you diagrams of the boards and the moves in real time.  You can't see the actual game being played or the players, and you don't get any of the commentary.  For that you have to pay.

I don't know how this works, but the AGON website says that it will give other websites a free "widget" so that they can broadcast the games as well.

ChessBase appears to be doing this.  They have the game windows here:  https://live.chessbase.com/watch/fide-geneva-grand-prix-2017/ with engine analysis in the background.

what dispute is this? there is no live coverage available by contract right? Except for the Kirsan version obviously....

AGON has been trying to forbid other pages from even transmitting the moves (for Candidates/WCh/more), which they lost multiple court cases in, but are still continuing with.

Most major chess websites now (rather than brute-forcing through AGON) turned around and are just boycotting the GP altogether, posting no moves/news/articles/anything about it, as a form of protest/showcase of how much it helps to fight fellow chess promoters.

As a consequence, these tournaments have entirely flown under the radar, despite the high profile of both their playerbase and the prize on offer.

I sure hope AGON/FIDE learns from this.. it's a huge shame - for players, organizers, and the chess world. The lack of publicity could have notable consequences for everyone (eg Ding Liren is sort of unknown for an elite player and rarely gets top tournament invites despite being consistently in the Top10 - surely it would have done his chess career some good, if his stellar results in the GP were more prominent in the public eye); just a huge, sad, mess.

There's another scenario, if he passes Nakamura on rating (their averages so far are 2786.3 for Aronian and 2788.4 for Nakamura, but Aronian's live rating is currently 10 points over Naka's so that might be doable), and MVL qualifies from the Grand Prix, and two of So, Caruana and Kramnik reach the World Cup final, then Aronian will be the second qualifier on rating.

But that's quite a few ifs.

I'm using https://chess.stackexchange.com/questions/16026/when-will-the-2018-fide-candidat... .

He could still become a finalist in the World Cup, no?

thanks R-P, really appreciate the summary seeing as Chess24 is boycotting the tournament as a result of disagreement/dispute with organiser.
Aronian losing today to Harakrishna, does that mean the end of his chance to get to the candidates. If yes, then only chance is again for Armenia to stump up with the money and offer to hold the Candidates and nominate Aronian as wildcard? Is that correct?

Round 6 results;

Aronian, Levon                   0-1         Harikrishna, P.
Gelfand, Boris                  ½-½        Adams, Michael
Grischuk, Alexander        ½-½        Radjabov, Teimour
Jakovenko, Dmitry          ½-½      Giri, Anish
Li, Chao b                          1-0        Eljanov, Pavel
Nepomniachtchi, Ian          1-0       Inarkiev, Ernesto
Rapport, Richard         0-1       Riazantsev, Alexander
Salem, A.R. Saleh      0-1          Hou, Yifan
Svidler, Peter             ½-½          Mamedyarov, Shakhriyar

three way lead - Grischuk, Radjabov and Harikrishna on 4 pts. Saleh and Rapport bottom on 1.5 pts.

3 rounds left. 4 players on 3.5 & 6 players on 3 pts so plenty of ways this could go by the end of the tournament.

Svidler's draw looked uncomfortable, but then, if anyone is going to hold a Grunfeld it's him.
