Posts: 26	What happened to Piket and Salov? 12/27/08 at 01:37:51 Since my return to chess I don't follow the happenings of the elite chess players that closely but two players who I admired a lot in the past obviously aren't playing anymore. Does anyone know what happened to Jeroen Piket and Valery Salov? They just got bored of the game or what?

Reply #2 - 12/27/08 at 15:58:49 Piket is in service of Joop van Oosterom (the chess maecenas) these days. That provided him of an sounder base to support his family (his own words). Van Oosterom has become WCh corr chess since then and I don't believe in coincidences like that. But I am curious what Valery Salov has been doing last years.

Thanks for the info. I googled van Oosterom, who I had never heard of, and found this interesting comment:

Apparently Piket's still into chess at least, but does anyone have a clue on what Salov might be doing with his life?

I am sure you have heard of the annual Melody Amber tournament of Monaco. Possibly you also have heard of the ten Dance tournaments (golden oldies vs. young females) of the 90's. Van Oosterom sponsored them from his own pocket.

I have never found a regulation that forbade consulting anyone.
