Hello everyone,

While perusing the new chess books coming out on Amazon, I noticed that Sveshnikov's book on 2. c3, which exists in quite a few languages besides English, is coming out in the fall from New in Chess.

Maybe this time he'll be able to demonstrate White's winning chances.

His articles in NiC yb on 2.c3 sicilian (and advance french) are very instructive.

I like the fact it will be one volume, and not split into 2 like his books on the French Advance (which were worth it). 575 pages is a bargain. Are all chess books super sized nowadays?

Hmmm...didn't Chandler (who, iirc, once beat Kasparov with this variation) publish a Batsford book...with the exact same title...back in the mid-1990's?  Perhaps New In Chess should borrow Batsford's old naming conventions when it commissioned Nunn to revise his Macmillan effort entitled, "The Complete Pirc", and dubbed the new book, "The Ultimate Pirc"?

In any event, it will be interesting to see what the "ultimate" authority on this variation has to reveal regarding the latest theoretical wrinkles.

The first edition of Chandler's book (one of the first on the variation, to my knowledge) came out about 1981.

Indeed.  The seminal Batsford effort, entitled, "Sicilian 2 c3".  Then about 15 years later Chandler "completed" his opening survey.
