GM Simon 'Chopper' Williams: The Killer French

This should be of interest to Frenchies:

Look forward to this one. A suitably forthright repertoire as one might expect from GM Williams.

Looks very interesting - more like the French we all know and love, as opposed to the other Vitiugov effort. I dont normally buy DVD's, but from what I can make of it I can play this one on my telly (unlike the ChessBase efforts), so I think I'll definitely be buying this one.

That's kind of funny to say, since Vitiugov covers the Poisoned Pawn Winawer in his book as well. I guess you really don't like the Rubinstein French! Smiley

Really? maybe the Vitiugov effort is not as bad as I thought - but yes devoting a lot of space to the Rubinstein is not really what a true Frenchie will appreciate.

Yeah, why the Rubinstein? Maybe a high class drawing vehicle, but not really one for the lower reaches.
Ordered anyhow as a Frenchie must.

I hope it has enough theoretical depth to make it worth my while. Nevertheless, I pre-ordered my copy yesterday.

I wonder how long it'll take to be available in the US. It took me an extra month or two after the initial release to get the Dutch DVD through an American site. Based on the quality of that, and the fact that I sometimes play the French and have been meaning to really learn how to play it properly (and aggressively, which seems like Williams' style), I'd definitely be interested in getting this.

Simon Williams is working hard right now. He is writing a book for Everymanchess :

http://www.everymanchess.com/chess/books/Attacking_Chess%3A_The_French

Attacking chess : The French.

Attacking Chess: The French
Simon Williams

Simon Williams presents an ambitious opening repertoire for Black based on the ever-popular French Defence. In this book one of the world's most imaginative Grandmasters combines his unique attacking ideas with the traditionally solid French structure, resulting in a powerful armoury of weapons. This will prove ideal for players who like to seize the initiative and cause problems for their opponents from the outset. Williams' recommendations are based on his own practical experience, where his ideas have stood the test of time against powerful grandmaster opposition.

Attacking Chess is a brand new series of opening repertoire books. It focuses on traditional attacking openings, as well as creative and forceful ways to play openings that are not always associated with attacking chess. It provides ambitious repertoires designed for players of all levels.
A Grandmaster's repertoire in the French Defence
Packed with new ideas, analysis and novelties
Illustrative games explain typical plans and tactics.

Published February 2011 EU, February 2011 US | ISBN 9781857446463
Format Paperback, 192 pages

This information may already been posted here but I have tried to find it here .

This looks interesting. I hope the book is published on time, not 2 years later.  Smiley

It'll be interesting to see what he says about the main line Winawer, since his own record doesn't look all that good in MegaBase/TWIC (P14 W3, D3, L8).

Bogojump, what the hey is that picture?  Is that anti-Semitic, or what?  It sure looks like it, and I have to say, I find it pretty offensive.

You're not the only one Markovich. I believe in free speech and I certainly have no right to go through life without being offended (whatever that means) , but this isn't a free speech zone. Besides, part of free speech means we are free to condemn...
