The Complete Benoni, by Psakhis, devotes 3 pages to the Snake. The evaluation is, of course, slightly better for white, but that shouldn't be discouraging.
By the way, IIRC Gashimov tends to play it against much lower rated players, which can also be seen as discouraging (he doesn't consider it good enough for prime time) or encouraging (most of us play with much lower rated players than Gashimov).

What do you think I should study to feel encouraged as Black? Smiley

Gashimov's games maybe? Smiley

Maybe. I have printed a lot of Miezis-games on the subject.
I miss annotations.

As Black, I would at times play this position as a complement to the Nimzo Indian,
after 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3: 3..c5 4.d5 exd5 5.cxd5 Bd6.

I have found books encouraging White:
* Dangerous Weapons: The Benoni and Benko (Ch. 07, "Killing the Snake")
* Beating the Fianchetto Defences by Grivas
* Play 1.d4 by Palliser
