Cheparinov's plan renders the whole variation useless as winning try for white- so unless Black desperately wants to win, he can simply opt for this.

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. f3 e5 6. Nb3 a5

and then if  7. c4 Nxe4 8. fxe4 Qh4+ 9. Kd2 a4 10. Nc3 Nc6 11. g3 Qd8 12. Nxa4 Rxa4 Looks good good to me...

5. ...Qb6 seems logical to me, exposing the open diagonal and the b2 pawn is more vulnerable as the knight hasn't been moved. Then you don't have to fianchetto your kingside and play a way you're not used to.

@bragesjo

Thanks...I prefer the second approach, Acc. Dragon Bind positions are what I am trying to avoid.

There are many good ways to play against Prins variation.

Actually 5 .. Nc6 is playable since after c4 black can play Nxd4 followed by g6 when black gets an accelarated Dragon when white has play the suboptimal move early f3 allowing black easy equalite. While I once blunder away a recent game in this line white has nothing unless black blunders heavely.

But if you want a fighting reply e5 is the the way to go. I think that "The sharpest sicilian" recommended e5 Nb3 Be6 when c4 is met by a5.

I would like to know what is the best way to handle this early deviation from d6 Sicilian players...

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. f3

intent on setting up a Maroczy Bind with c4

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. f3 e5 6. Nb3 a5 7. c4 a4  Looks interesting

Looking at the databases

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. f3 e5 6. Nb3 Be6 7. c4 Nbd7  is the most popular but is it the best.

Any comments on the best way to meet this line.

Colin McNab recommends 7...a5!? after 7.c4 in QC Experts on the Anti Sicilian

I would like to avoid the traditional bind position, I found one game in my database that seem to keep things open'

Vedmediuc, Serghei (2422) vs. Lupulescu, Constantin (2626)

2011

Thanks for any feed back!
