Incidentally, we are currently working on an updated database UI that includes a welcome screen, sidebar, configurable panels and improved searching by position + opening guides can be played through in the browser.

If you bought your sub via Forward Chess it might still work on their App, I don't know.

That is what I figured. The new site does work well on mobile, so it isn't essential. I just wasn't sure.
Tony - Thanks for following up on my comments. That's an interesting bit of information about the DGT board errors. I never considered that as a possibility.

Thank you all for the warm welcome and the insights!

@Lauri Torni - 50 years of chess is impressive, that's real dedication. I'm curious how the game has changed for you over the decades, especially with engines and online play becoming so dominant.

@GMTonyKosten - makes sense about the shift to other platforms. I think there's still something special about dedicated chess forums though, the depth of discussion here feels different from social media.

@cathexis - I'll definitely dig through the archives, thanks for the tip. Looking forward to more discussions here.

Hi everyone,

I was curious how most players here prefer to start online games with friends.

When I play with friends, the process is sometimes:

- Exchange usernames
- Search for the player
- Send a challenge
- Wait for them to find the correct game

It works, but I've always wondered if there is a simpler approach.

Would you prefer:

1. Username challenges
2. Private game codes
3. Direct invitation links
4. Something else

Personally, I like the idea of creating a table and sharing a direct invite link so the other player can join immediately.

How do you usually handle friend-to-friend games online?

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.

I have updated some of the Forum modules (which I hadn't done in 7 years!), these are all only minor revisions so everything should work fine, but if something stops working or behaves oddly, please let me know here, thanks!

long story short, I could write blog posts on lichess, with links back to this forum.

I have one such post ready, re: the 1.b4 c6 variation, wherein Black maintains an outpost with ...e5

guess I'm looking for a little encouragement too. I am a comparatively VERY weak player compared to the usual on here, but I think I have some good ideas now and then

speaking of which, it struck me just this afternoon, that perhaps not the greatest WC of all-time, but possibly the one with the most interesting ideas, was, of course, Fischer

why follow theory? make some!
