Catalan
Hi all,
I was thinking of trying the Catalan. I do not know much about it and an sure my opponents probably will not either. I was wondering what's the play like. I know I seen a few Kramnik game... Started 07/18/19 at 16:21:18 by Mtal |

State of theory in Cambridge Springs
I was thinking of playing this, perhaps via Nimzo move order if White tries 3. Cf3. But I barely see this in elite tournaments. My only source is the 2002 Panczyk/Ilczuk book. Is the opening still rel...

4 Bf4
In the sequence 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 d5 4. Bf4, it appears possible to play the Nimzo/Ragozin idea of 4. .. Bb4. It's not terribly popular, but there doesn't seem anything wrong with it.

Why are playing the Big Boys like this?
The elite players against d4 usually play like Nimzo move order 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 but if white play Nf3 then 3.d5. With this move order they just avoid the exchange variation witg Nge2. All the rest se...

Idea in 5 Bf4 system
In a recent game, after 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 e6 3. Nf3 d5 4. Nc3 Nbd7 5. Bf4 c6 6. e3 Be7 7. Qc2 O-O, I was faced with 8. Ng5.
The main idea being that 8. .. h6 is met with 9. h4. That might be Black... Started 11/08/18 at 00:52:26 by RdC |

Nimzo/QID player avoiding Catalán
I was thinking over how a Nimzo/QID player plays 1. d4 Cf6 2. c4 e6. They are covered after 3. Cc3 Ab4 a Nimzo, 3. Cf3 b6, the QID. If 3. g3, then in addition to transposing to a Tarrasch main line, I...
