Is black suffering in the d3, Bxc6 anti-Berlin?
I really feel that black is suffering in the d3 Berlin if White takes on c6.
Have you Berlin players experienced this as well? It's a bit surprising. One would think it's a welcomed line winning...

9...Ne8 against 5.Re1
This line, which has been played a number of times by Aronian, seems to lead to more unbalanced positions than usually in the 5.Re1 Anti-Berlin. Is this a good way for black to play for a win?
I ...

My approach and a fun sac in 4.d4 anti-Berlin
Saw a thread on this move years ago and thought I'd add my new 2 cents, though it's probably not theoretically relevant to the GMs and correspondence players of the world. Another big thank you to the...

Poll: What should black play after 4.d3?
What should black playa after 4.d3? All the SuperGMs seem to play Bc5, but in recent games it seems like white has gotten a more pleasant position.

Ke8 or Kc8
The original form of the Berlin endgame had the King returning to e8. In its post 2000 form, Kramnik demonstrated that Bd7 and Kc8 was also viable. Both are still played to this day. Have any clear op...

The Berlin in the Berlin Candidates
Kramnik came up with a remarkable idea in the Berlin Candidates.
Against Aronian he played 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nf6 4. d3 Bc5 5. Bxc6 dxc6 6. 0-0 Qe7 7. h3 Rg8 and won very quickly.

9..b6
Is 9..b6 a solid alternative to the main lines? I know cox briefly mentions it in his book and it seems logical enough. Just wanted to get opinions (if any) on this line.

The 4.d3 anti-Berlin
I've been using 4.d3 as a way of avoiding the main line Berlin theory (and boredom). It's been fairly popular among the elites lately (Carlsen, Anand, Akopian, Shirov, Svidler and Karjakin have all us...

Berlin with 4.d4
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nf6 4.d4 is hardly ever played in master games, but it doesn't score much differently than 4.Re1 or 4.0-0. I've looked at the main lines 4.d4 exd4 5.0-0 or 5.e5, and 4.d4 Nxd4,...

Classical Berlin - critical lines?
Hi, I want to ask about that one:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nf6 4.0-0 Bc5
Is that line currently under pressure or is it playable for Black?
Is 5.Nxe5 best try for White or 5.c3  ?
