Berlin Wall : 6.dxe5 and 7.a4
Is there really any serious way for Black to try and avoid the draw without asking for trouble?

Refutation of a line in the Classical
I will now be generous and share what I believe to be the refutation of a major line of the Berlin Classical: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 Nf6 4. 0-0 Bc5 5. Nxe5 (this may be White's best, I opine)...

What does White reply against the Berlin?
Hi,
my first three games with the Berlin Defence started 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nf6 4.0-0 Nxe4 5.Re1 Nd6 6.Bxc6 My rating is 1900+ and my opponents were rated 1800-2000. <br... Started 03/27/09 at 10:14:50 by emary |

Is black suffering in the d3, Bxc6 anti-Berlin?
I really feel that black is suffering in the d3 Berlin if White takes on c6.
Have you Berlin players experienced this as well? It's a bit surprising. One would think it's a welcomed line winning... Started 05/15/20 at 19:59:18 by Heuristic « Pages 1 2 all » |

Classical Ruy - A Popular Line Busted?
In Ivan Sokolov's recent book, The Ruy Lopez Revisited, he gives the following as a possible refutation to a well established line of the Classical which runs: 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nf6 4.0-0 Bc5 5...

Black's best winning chances in the Berlin endgame
Carlsen recently stated that 9...Bd7 gave black winning chances in the Berlin whilst the Kramnik method (9...Ke8 followed by...h5) was drawish. Yet Topalov has generally played ...Ne7 instead (somebo...

Classical Berlin - critical lines?
Hi, I want to ask about that one:
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nf6 4.0-0 Bc5 Is that line currently under pressure or is it playable for Black? Is 5.Nxe5 best try for White or 5.c3 ? Started 01/23/08 at 18:56:05 by Dzambus |

Is the Berlin Wall a suitable weapon for clubplayers rated around 2000-2100? What do you think?

Poll:
What should black play after 4.d3?
What should black playa after 4.d3? All the SuperGMs seem to play Bc5, but in recent games it seems like white has gotten a more pleasant position.

9..b6
Is 9..b6 a solid alternative to the main lines? I know cox briefly mentions it in his book and it seems logical enough. Just wanted to get opinions (if any) on this line.

Berlin wall 9...Ke8 : why does White play 10.h3?
I confess I find it really hard to get my head round this. It seem to go without comment, but what specifically is White actually gaining (or preventing) by playing this rather than another move?
