What is the current status of the Kan?
It seems like the Kan is a lot less popular since Khalifman aimed his guns at the Kan and that Black is struggling against 5 Bd3. It also seems the Taimanov is viewed as being more reliable than the K...

What are the relative advantages of these moves after 1 e4 c4 2 Nf3 e6 3 d4 cd Nd4 Nc6 5 Nc3. Delchev prefers 5..Qc7 according to the index for Safest Siclian (don't have the book yet). Why?

Anyone writing Starting Out Sicilian Kan?
A few years have passed since Emm's book and it would be interesting to see what practitioner's think of Khalifman's suggestions in Vol 8 of his Anand series.

Taimanov queen "sacrifice" variation
Yet another twist in the dedate over this variation:
[Event "Moscow Open 2007"] [Site "Moscow, RUS"] [Date "2007.01.30"] [Round "4"] [White "Kornev, Alexei(RUS)"] [Black "Geller, Jakov(RUS)"]<br ...[/b] position after 13...Kf8!? This move is disregarded in all sources I have (Delchev/Semkov, Rizzitano, Sommerbauer), however Geller comes with a new plan of attacking with the g and h pawns - which works very nicely here (confirming my belief that playing an automatic 13...g6 and followed by ...0-0 is just too passiv Started 01/30/07 at 20:32:53 by Ptero |
