Why do people still avoid the Exchange QGD?
In top level games the vast majority of QGD games are arising via the Nimzo move order or 3...Be7, while in the rare cases 3...Nf6 is played, white players nearly exclusively play the Exchange Variati...

Be2, Bxf6, cxd in Tartakower
I find the Tartakower defence annoying when I, as White, take immediately on d5 after ...b6. I see the latest from the top-GMs, with most success for White, is to play 8.Be2, and then, after Bb7, to t...

Tartakower against 5. Bf4?
The theory on 5. Bf4 mostly focuses on either the 6...Nbd7 or 6...c5 lines. Pardon my ignorance but why isn't the tartakower setup (1. d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Nc3 Be7 5.Bf4 0-0 6.e3 b6) played more ...

QGD Vienna Variation 6.Bxc4 question, 8...Bd6

Carlsen spoke of 'The Berlin of 1.d4?'
Yesterday Carlsen spoke of 'the berlin vs 1.d4' in the Champion Chess Tour final vs Wesley So. What line is this exactly? I didn't see all the games.

Queen's Gambit for Black
Perhaps black is spoiled for choices. After 4...Be7, black must prepare for both Bg5 and Bf4 systems. However each choice leaves white with choices in turn. Feel free to share your reasoning if you li...

QGD: 3...Nf6 vs 3...Be7
I heard from many sources, like Seirawan commenting in Sinquefield Cup and NM Dereque Kelley in one of his youtube videos, suggesting that after 1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3, 3...Be7 is more accurate than [b]3...Nf

Andreikin-Kramnik, World Cup R3
Anyone else check out this game?
[pgn] [Event "FIDE World Chess Cup"] [Site "chess24.com"] [Date "2015.09.17"] [Round "19"] [White "Andreikin, Dmitry"] [Black "Kramnik...|/pgn] I am not an expert in the QGD by any means, but 9...c5!? seems kind of unusual, but interesting. At the very least I thought Kramnik's position was quite appealing after 16...Qc6. According to my understanding from the White side, 10.dxc5 should be tried. I wonder what Kramnik's idea was here? I analyzed quite a few ...d4 ideas after 10...Nc6, but nothing seemed to totally work. Black does have a lot of ways to head into 2B vs. 2N positions down a pawn, but I'm not sure about any of them. Will post more when I get home from work and have access to a database and computer. Started 09/17/15 at 18:18:29 by TonyRo |
