Having issues with this
Hi all,
I have an issue with this line:
1.c4 c6 2.g3 d5 3.Bg2 Nf6 4.Nf3 dxc4 5.Qc2 Qd5 6.Nc3 Qa5!
Here Nigel Davies says "...then Nd1 (7Ne4 or 7.B3) looks interesting as after 7...e5 ...

1. Nf3 2. c4 e6 for the NID/QID players
I'm finding the move order with 1. Nf3 quite annoying. If 3. Nc3, I'm uncertain if Bb4 is as effective as when d4 is played and going into a normal d4 opening with d5 would mean that White has forced ...

Reti : 2.c4 vs 2. g3
What would be the optimal move-order ? There seems  to be a general preference for 2. c4, but look at what Alumbrado noticed in 'Strategic Opening Repertoire' :
"In fact, it is noticeable that th...

Different verdicts on ...d5/...g6 anti-Reti setup
I love playing flank openings as White, but sometimes it’s very difficult for us lesser players to distinguish between truly challenging lines and lines where the only pressure we’re really putting op...

English/Slav set-ups: White plays e3 and delays d4
If Black tries to play a Slav set-up against the English and White plays (say) 1.c4 c6 2.Nf3 d5 3.e3, what options does Black have if he or she does not want to play ...e6? Can ...Bg4 be safely played...
