A Pure Reti
I enjoy opening with the Reti but frequently my 1.Nf3 is met with 1...c5 and the game transposes into either the Sicilian or the Symmetrical English. I have been working from Angus Dunnington's excell...

I am looking for some alternatives after 1. Nf3 c5 which do not involve 2. c4, and I thought of 2.b4(?! or maybe a ?). Is this sound or is there simply no compensation for the pawn whatsoever?

Reti 1.Nf3 d5 2.c4 d4 3.b4!?
What do people think of this move?
It seems quite sharp after 3...f6 4.e3 e5 5.c5!? (5.Qb3 is the 'safe' possibility).  Then:
(a) 5...d3!? 6.Qb3 e4 7.Nd4 and it looks very complicated!

It was interesting to see that Tony had covered the sideline 1.c4 c6 2.g3 d5 3.Bg2 e5 in this months update. I think I would have opted for cxd and d4 quite quickly myself, as I don`t think responding...
