C45: Sasikiran's Mieses
GM Sasikiran doesnt seem to share Dembo & Palliser's opinion that the old line 8...Nb6 9. Nc3 Bb7 and long castling is too passive as he played it twice at the Aeroflot Open.
The first game went ... Started 02/17/12 at 14:42:43 by spagh3tti |

Scotch with 4...Bc5
Hi !
I wonder which is the best way for black to go to an ending (exchange of queens) after: a) 5.Nxc6 Qf6 6.Qd2 b) 5.Nxc6 Qf6 6.Qf3 (In variation a) e.g. there is also this Tkac... Started 08/16/06 at 13:37:18 by Strategy_Rules |

C45: Path to playability in Scotch 4...Qh4?
I've seen the other thread regarding 4...Qh4 against the Scotch and then 5.Nc3 Bb4 6.Be2 Qe4 7.Ndb5 Bc3 8.bc3 Kd8 9.0-0 Nf6. But I think I may have found a simpler path to playability for Black thoug...

Exciting new for Scotch enthusiasts - Everyman has announced a monster tome on the Scotch, covering the opening from (it seems) both side's perspective. The authors are Palliser and Dembo, in my opini...

The specific line 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd4 4.Nxd4 Bc5 5.Be3 Qf6 6.Nb5!? (or maybe ?!) of Scotch Opening is called as Blumenfeld line probably because he was the first serious player to employ it be...

Good Scotch update: Dec 2007.
There is a very useful discussion of the Scotch 4...Nf6 in this month's update. It's well worth the price of admission. Thanks, Tony.

Theory goes 1.e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. d4 exd4 4. Bc4 Bc5. Now here the normal continuation is 5. 0-0 as mentioned in Bologan's Black Weapons. But Stockfish 7 has come up with a new wrinkle here and throws...
