Hi Mr.Andrew Martin!!

After 8...Bg4 9 h3 Bh5 10 Ne2 Bg6 11 Qb3 is followed by 11...Qb6! then if 12.Nf4 Qb3 13.ab3 Be4= or 13...Bc2 14.b4 e6 15.b5 c5 16.b6 a6 17.Bb5+ Nd7!=

See you!

Hi (again ?!)

instead of 7. ...Nf6, I had the idea of 7. ...g6!? In order to have a nice Bg7 and an other one at f5. Black's position looks enjoyable (for a caro afficionado, not for me  Wink ).

Thoughts ?

     Hello again,

    A good point from one of our guests.

    Yes 8...Bg4 is critical and I mentioned this in the November Update.

    9 h3 Bh5 10 Ne2 was my thought and if 10...e6 11 Nf4 is solidly += whereas if 10...Bg6,the plan suggested by Fianchetto, then 11 Qb3! followed by Nf4 , trying to nab the Two Bishops.

     But who knows all this ? It's a very rare line and has the added advantage that White seems only to be playing for a cheapo.

No experience at all in this line, but after 8.Qc2 black can play Bg4 and I don't think he is in trouble. The bishop stops Nf3 and it will probably fine in g6  Smiley.

    Hi,

I'd like to draw everyone's attention to the following line:

   1 e4 c6 2 d4 d5 3 Nc3/d2  dxe4 4 Nxe4 Nd7 5 Qe2!?

   as played in Melia-Gilbert which features in a recent update.

    White attempts to grip e5.

     After 5...Ndf6 6 c3 Nxe4 7 Qxe4 Nf6 8 Qc2  the follow-up might be Nf3,g3,Bg2 0-0,Re1 etc with a bind.  Black must not allow this sequence to go unchallenged

     Has anyone any experience here ?

     Andrew
