Have a look e.g. in the chessbase online database (www.chesslive.com), there's 4 games where black was rated above 2400 and in 3 of them black played the combination of Nf6 & c6, so I guess it has to be a fairly sensible approach. Bc5 (played in the 4th game) also makes a lot of sense, doesn't it?

I'd just like to second this recommendation, since the position has occurred in numerous games of mine (although I rarely play the QGA anymore...).

Hi Ruslan,

I thank you for the plan provided but would like to know if there are any games available for the said continuation
1.d4 d5 2.c4 dc4 3.e4 e5 4.d5 alternatively if you could give a bit longer analysis then it would really help.

Thanks and Rgds,

Madhav

Hello, Sven!

White has lack in development to make such an action successful. Black can instantly attack White’s center by 4. ..Nf6 5. Nc3 c6 6. Bxc4 Bb4 or maybe even think about 6. ..b5 followed by …b5-b4. Even if White is able to secure his pawn on d5 after all Black would hardly have any problems - equal material, no weaknesses and better development altogether is Black's dream in any opening.

By the way, McDonnell’s 4. ..f5!? is also interesting but perhaps it looks too crazy for true QGA player.

Regards, Ruslan

Hey!
I have just started to play QGA with black.
many players with white play 3.e4 and I'll play 3...e5 variation. Now theory gives only 4.Nf3 but I have seen in many blitz games that white continues 4.d5
That move isn't mentioned in QGA ebook, or in NCO.
Eco gives that Macdonell continued 4...f5 in London 1834!?
what is black's best plan against 4.d5?
