After 1.e4 Nf6 2.Nc3 d5 3.e4 I just play 3...dxe4 going into a mainline BDG. I like the Euwe Defence (recommended by GM Gallagher in his book Beating the Anti Kings Indians)  which continues 4. f3 exf3 5. Nxf3 e6.

Every BDG player knows 7.Qxe5?! is a mistake; better play 7.c3! and White is heading for the win.

I think after the simple 4.d4 white is better.

Which is why after 1.e4 Nf6 2.Nc3 d5 3.e5, Black should play 3...Ne4!? with complicated play - but of course,l this is a subject for the "1.e4 ..." section of the site really!
  
If sometimes we fly too close to the sun, at least this shows we are spreading our wings.

Be careful with that line you are playing in the Alekhine as you can face very dangerous attack after 1.e4 Nf6 2.Nc3 d5 3.e5 Nd7 4.e6! Wink

Personally I think the BDG is not very good (Gary Lane will disagree with me!).  A safe equaliser for Black goes (after your move order) 3...Ne4:(!)
4.Ne4: de4:
5.Bc4 e5! (given a ? by Lane in his book on the BDG but it is perfectly OK - 5...Nc6!? is also good)
6.Qh5 Qe7! (threatening 7...Qb4+ - a point which over-enthusiastic gambiteers often miss in their desire not to exchange queens Wink)
7.Qe5:
and now Lane only gives 7...Qe5:?! which I think does lead to a slight plus for White, but Black can improve with the rather obvious
7... Nc6! and after
8.Qe7:+ Be7: it is dead equal

BDG in the Alekhine

  I play the Alekhine as Black and have come up against the BDG in the line 1.e4 Nf6 2.Nc3 d5 3.e4 etc.  Are there any lines against the BDG that would work for Black due to this move order.
