In your second line, how are you planning to meet 6. d4? 6...de4 7. Kte5 seems to be good for White, and I'm not too sure what else you could play.

I started playing 3...g6 against the Spanish a couple of years ago and love it.  There's lots of room for experimentation, but at its heart its logical and sound.  After all, the Spanish is all about undermining Black's e5, so ...g6 and ...Bg7 bolster that point

1. e4   e5
2. Nf3  Nc6
3. Bb5  g6
4. c3   f5
<SNIP a 2nd variation>

Expanding on this with analysis and practice in the meantime, White's try 5. Bxc6 does not seem sufficient:

5. Bxc6 bxc6
6. Nxe5 Qe7!

and Black is equalizing with best play.  I'm not going to reveal all my secrets here, but suffice it to say I'm now more concerned with 5. exf5.  I just think it's really cool that there can be such new ground so early with such an old opening.
