Actually this pawn sac is mentioned in my eBook on the King's English, and I analysed it in the Filippov,V-Volzhin,A game on the site! In the eBook I recommend 5 d3! 8)

The lines with 1...e5 and a later fianchetto of the King's Bishop can be very sharp and and lead to play which is similar to (or that transposes into) the KID or Dutch Leningrad

Hi,

Here is a sharp line for black that I have yet to see any analysis on:
1.c4 e5 2.Nc3 Nf6 3.g3 f5 4.Bg2 Nf6 5.e3 d5!?
The idea being after 6.cd Nb4 7.d4 e4 with good play.

Thoughts?

Bela

Well, I did not buy it yet because I secretly hope you'll give it to me for free one day Cheesy (Don't forget to sign it)... Just kidding Smiley

Also, I thought you might soon create an electronic version of that book... so, lots of opportunities to "wait and see" Smiley

What do you mean you haven't bought it yet!!!! Angry
Actually, I am only joking!
There are plenty of sharp lines in the English: 4 g4 in the Nimzo-English, or the Mikenas Attack, for instance, and against the Four Knights with  4 g3 Bb4 there is the stuff that kasparov used to play against Karpov. 8)

Well, personally, I choose to play 1.c4 and then 2.g3 and 3. Bg2. I think Tony's book on English is based on this setup and I have yet to buy it Smiley Can't comment much on the lines as I just recently switched to English and am still exploring. However, I like it very much so far as it fits my style and I had good results with it without even studying enough. Also, I think this setup is unbalanced enough to have an exciting game.

sharp lines in the english

Hi everyone!
i am a new subscriber to chesspub (not to this site yet, but I think I will...)
anyway, as I might start playing c4 as a way to avoid some d4 lines I don't like (like the QGD or the nimzo), I am looking for sharp lines in the c5 and e5 English, or at least really unbalancing lines; to give you an idea, I play the French and the KID as black, and I also like the Botvinnik semi-slav (all lines where you take some positionnal or tactical risks that give rise to really unbalanced positions...)...
so, as I am rather new to the English, I would be glad if somebody could pinpoint some lines that might suit me....

Thanks!!! Smiley
