4...Nxe4 is an interesting attempt. I think the line 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. g3 Nxe4 5. Nxe4 d5 6. Nc3 d4 7. Bg2 dxc3 8. bxc3 [Campora D (2510) - Flores Di (2439)] gives the same position as the main line 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. g3 d5 5. exd5 Nxd5 6. Bg2 Nxc3 7. bxc3 (with one move less). For this reason, Black may have to learn the main line with 4...d5 anyway. Any thoughts?

I don't know if anything about this line is in the article, but the four knights line with g3 is refuted cause of 4. ... Nxe4!! leading to a reversed halloween gambit but with the big advantage that white can't place his knight on g3 cause he moved his pawn there already.
Some games:

Al Modiakhi M (2490) - Hakki J. (2440)

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. g3 Nxe4
5. Nxe4 d5 6. Nc3 d4 7. Nb5 a6 8. Na3 e4 9. Qe2 Bxa3 10. bxa3 O-O 11. Ng1 d3
12. cxd3 (here black played Qd4 when he still got enough compensation although he lost) but 12. ...  Nd4 13. Qh5 Re8 and white would have to resign

Campora D (2510) - Flores Di (2439)
In this game white didn't find anything beter than to give piece back with slightly worse position

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. g3 Nxe4
5. Nxe4 d5 6. Nc3 d4 7. Bg2 dxc3 8. bxc3 (and they drew eventually)

Smirin I (2670) - Macieja B (2653)
Also here the strong gm didn't find anything better than to give piece back with slightly worse position for white

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. g3 Nxe4
5. Nxe4 d5 6. Nc3 d4 7. Ne4 f5 8. Neg5 e4 9. Bc4 exf3 10. Nxf3 Qe7+ 11. Kf1 Be6 (and they drew eventually)

If anybody thinks he can find a better try for white don't hesitate to post it.

Isn't this move mentioned in the note to the Sedina game? Undecided

Four Knights 4.g3 Nd4!?

The latest update on the 4 Knights is excellent - but there is an omission in the consideration of Black's fourth move alternatives.  I saw a game recently (I think it is in Watson's "Chess Strategy in Action") in which blakc meets 4.g3 with 4...Nd4!?  the idea is to play a Belgrade Gambit Reversed where White's extra tempo (g2-g3) is not necessarily very helpful - indeed you could argue that since W has weakened the f3 square it is logical to target it with ...Nd4.

I will try to find the game again and put it up here - if I ever find the time ... Sad

In the meantime, has anybody seen any examples of this move and are there any views as to how White should meet it?
