Gambit's book is out oct 2005 according to their web site.

It seems to be a big book in large-format pages (like Essential Chess Sacrifices and Understanding Chess Move by Move).

The "old man's habit" is back with a vengeance!

Maybe someone can use that for an exciting title or description...

It seems that I am coming up against the limitations of my powers as a God.  If there was just one opening that I would banish it would be the London System - but now I see that it is growing in popularity Sad

I contacted chessdigest to know if they have Soltis book on the London system in stock. I was told that the book is out of print. But I was informed that DON Maddox right now is working on a CD which will deal with the London system. I asked when it will be released and was told that it hoppfully will be released this authum.

Best regards

I see that in 2004 alot of games were played with the London System 2400 + players, It may be time for a closer look at this variation.

Lane´s book is a nice and entertaining read for starters (1400-1700) as he shows some tricks but in fact it isn´t an adaequate theory of the London System, there are too many omissions where every advanced player will catch you.
As Black I prefer 1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Bf4 g6! with grünfeld-like positions and sometimes 3...c5 4.e3 Nc6 5.c3 cxd4 with 6...Nc6 and most often 7...Bg4 to follow after 6.exd4 or cxd4. As I play Caro-Kann and Slav I have no problem with the exchange variations and most white players are not prepared for this. Some writers say that the C-K-Exchange is a simple small plus for White but they´re lying as tournament practice and C-K-theory clearly show that play is much easier from the black side (minority attack). And the slav exchange is not as harmless as most people think, there are some very sharp lines. And as White has already played e2-e3 then Bc8-g4 will be a pin.
I´ve played the London myself some time ago but stopped it after only a few games.

Please give me an example starting with:1.d4 d5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Bf4 Bf5!. I think that black makes an easy draw in this line. How can white play for victory? By what moves?

I have a question. I do have the book by Neil Mac Donald which gives the London System as a Rep. I was wondering, what is the best thing for white to do if black plays and early bf4??? So say 1 d4 d5, 2 bf4 bf5 or 1 d4 d5, 2 nf3 nf6, 3 bf4 bf5. Thank you.
