Why are BDG players do not look any further
than their pet openings?
Nextirae, the move 4.f3 is NOT a Rasa-
Studier Gambit, as those two were wearing
diapers yet, when Sir Stuart already played
- with succes - this slightly underestimated
move. 4.f3 e5 5.Be3 is rather unclear and
in fact Black's best try might be 4.f3 exf3
5.Nxf3 Bf5 6.Bc4 Nf6 and this shoud of
course be called Von Henning-Milner
Barry Gambit.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

The reason why it frustrates BDGers is because after d4 d5 e4 dxe4 Nc3 c6 f3? it is not a BDG!  It's a Rasa-Studier Gambit.  (e4 c6 d4 d5 Nc3 dxe4 f3)  This may frustrate the inexperienced BDGer, but 4.Bc4 is more than adequate and much stronger than f3.

Sorry to tell you, this won't frustrate me.  (Not to mention that I could just play Nxe4! with the great prospects of the Caro-Kann.)

You might be interested in an article of
Tim McGrew at chesscafe, who
recommended 4.f3 e5 5.Be3.
I do not know how you combat the
Ziegler Defense, but 4.Bc4 is also
well known.
In the Caro-Kann move order 4.Bc4 is
invented by Von Hennig in 1920 and
4.f3 by Milner Barry in 1932. Their
gambits are older than the BDG.

Anyone who plays Karo-Kann and Queens Gambit should know the real easy way to frustrate Blackmar-Diemer
Gambit Players.

1 d4 d5
2. e4 dxe
3. Nc3 c6 (3...e5 is playable but there is a mass of theory)yIf white still tries to play the BDG with
4. f3 then 4...e5 spoils whites fun.

Again

1 e4 c6
2 d4 d5
3. Nc3 dx3
4.f3 e5

I am a BDG expert and hate to play against the above variation.

I am hopelessly addicted to the King's Gambit
