In the 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 e6 4.Bb5 Black is commited to ..e6 but White is committed to Nc3.  I think this is tricky but nothing a prepared Black should be worried about.   So I tend to believe it is your second suggestion (6.Nxc6) that they have in mind.

I assume the idea is either to play 4.Bb5, transposing to the 3.Bb5 lines but having avoided the 3...g6 defence; or, after 4.d4 cxd4 5.Nxd4 Nf6, to play the interesting 6.Nxc6!? bxc6 7.e5 to cut across Black's plans.

I am not sure what the existing state of theory is on that line, but I am sure that it belongs in the Open Sicilians forum, so I will start a new thread there.

I know it has been very popular of late to play 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 to avoid the Sveshnikov Variation, but what is the idea for White after 3...e6 4.d4 cxd4 5.Nxd4 Nf6, since I was under the impression that the most testing move was supposed to be 6.Ndb5 when of course 6...d6 7.Bf4 e5 8.Bg5 heads back into the main line.  (Besides the fact that 3...e5 seems to be doing well.)

PS-- I didn't know if this should go here or in the        Open Sicilian section?
