If (as the case seems to be) you are equally comfortable in the forms of notation you use, it would be preferable if you could use the "standard" (english) notation format (B=bishop, N=knight, R=rook, Q=queen, etc.) as it would seem as though that notation style will be understood by most readers.

Thanks,

Well said, Glenn!

6.Qd2 is just plain bad for White and actually a typical beginner´s move in view of 6...Ng4. For newbies in the Dragon: 6.f3 serves the following purposes:

a) strenghtening e4
b) ruling out ...Ng4
c) preparing a later g2-g4 (if necessary i.e. after h2-h4 h7-h5)

6.Bc4 Ng4 7.0-0 is playable for White but nothing special. If Black is lazy or not in a so called "punishing mood" he can always answer 6.Lc4 with 6...0-0 when White has nothing better than 7.f3 in view of Ng4.

The line with Be3 and Be2 which was mentioned by Glenn contains some traps if Black adopts the Nxd4 and Be6 plan, but as mentioned in WWTD2 the line is of no theoretical danger.

Stefan

After 5.Be3 Bg7 6.Qd2, 6...Ng4 looks like the natural way to try and punics the omission of f3.  7.Bg5 (7.Bb5+ Bd7 [my computer likes 7...Nd7!?] 8.Bxd7+ Qxd7 9.Bg5 h6 10.Bh4 Nc6 11.Nde2 makes the c4-square look rather inviting.) 7...h6! 8.Bh4 Nc6 looks at least equal for Black to me.

A similiar but probably slightly more dangerous system is 5.Be3 Bg7 6.Be2 Nc6 7.Qd2 O-O 8.O-O-O.

Hi guys,

Would like your opinion on best moves in this position,

1 e4 c5 2 nf3 nc6 3 d4 cd 4 nf6 nc3 5 be3 g6 6 be3 bg7
7qd2 ...

Is it better here to immediatly hit the bishop with ng4 and trade it? I decided not to and played 7... 0 - 0
8 0-0-0 then back to dragon "proper" with 8 ... d6
Was d5 better here or still ng4, any opinions
then he played 9 f4

Any ideas on what to play in these positions would be appreciated, I played 9... bd7 followed by 10 h3?!
