Some of the sites mentioned earlier in this thread are very good but I buy most of my chess books through Amazon.  They have great reduced prices on most books and free shipping for orders over $25.

Of course, the best shop would be the one that gives you in-depth reviews on the book to be purchased, as schachversand.de does.

I don't buy chess books from the US very often anymore. When I did, my favourite was http://www.chessco.com/ .
  
Don't check me with no lightweight stuff.
