Would it stray too far off topic to ask what people here do play against 2...Nc6 3.Bb5?

0-0 and after ...g6 then c3.  Point is that ...Nd4 is a fine move for Black if White's QN is on c3, but when it's not, ...cd4 doesn't force the knight to move and thus Black gains no time.  If you play c3 and Black takes, you recapture with the knight and you will get your ideal center, and Black will not be able to challenge the d4-square with a pawn (unless you're willing to risk ...e5, which looks like a bad move to me).  White has already developed his entire kingside and is castled, and Black has no pieces developed (even after ...Bg7, its just one piece).  I think ...Nd4 is bad if White has not played Nc3.

If you insist on moving the c6-knight, then 3...Na5!? is a tricky line, although White should be somewhat better following 4.c3 a6 5.Ba4! or even the quieter 5.Be2.

Nothing has meaning or value other than the meaning and value that you give it.

After 3...Nd4 4.Nxd4 cxd4, I would recommend 5.0-0, and then depending on Black's next move you can still decide if you wish to follow with 6.c3 challenging the d4-pawn or alternatively 6.d3 and 7.f4. Chris Baker recommends 6.c3 after 5...g6 (preparing Bg7), and 6.d3 after 5...e6 (which could prepare Bc5). And be careful: 5.d3 loses to 5...Qa5+.

After 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 Nd4?! 4.Nxd4! cxd4 both 5.d3 (oops, see next post about 5.d3??) and 5.c3 look good enough to keep an edge, but I think its most flexible to play 5.0-0 and probably follow with c3.

After

1. e4 c5
2. Nf3 Nf6
3. Bb5

Black reply with 3... Nd4

A. Is the best move for white here is 4.Nxd4 cxd4 ?

B. after 4.Nxd4 cxd4, what's the good plan for white ? I think myself it's between 5.c3 and 5.d3 with totally different structure will arise.

thanks for opinion.
