For all the Dragoneers,

I just thought you should know that the idea of 10.0-0-0 for white makes it quite easy to equalize with 10...Rc8. This was played twice in Masserey vs hoffman-1994 and again in 1996 in Dean vs. Rodriguez. Black won both matches.

I do believe that an improvement could be found in Dean vs. Rodriguez

1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 g6 6.Bg5!? Bg7 7. Bb5+ Bd7 8. Qe2 a6!(given by Ivanchuk in chess informant 65 I believe) 9.Bxd7 Nbxd7 10.0-0-0 Rc8! 11. f4 0-0 12. e5 dxe5 (here the game went 12...Rxc3 13.exf6 exf6 14. bxf6 Nxf6 15. bxc3 Qa5) 13. fxe5 Rxc3 with the same idea as the game but without the vunerablity of d6

1. e4   c5
2. Nf3  d6
3. d4   cxd4
4. Nxd4 Nf6
5. Nc3  g6
6. Bg5  Bg7
7. Bb5+ Bd7
8. Qe2  a6
9. Bxd7+ Nbxd7
10. O-O-O Rc8
11. f4  O-O
12. Rhe1

I am out of town and don't have access to my computer(i.e. Shredder, Fritz, etc). I have ran into this line against an expert. I won both times, but I am curious as to what the best move is for black.

I have played 12...e5 with the continuation running something like 13. Nf3 Rxc3 14. Bxc3 Qc7, but I am intersted in looking at 12...h6 because if 13. Bh4 simply 13...exf4.

I like 12...e5 but I don't know what the proper continuation would be. Can someone analyze this for me just one or two lines please thanks a lot.

I see the point:
with the Queen in e2 the Rook sacrifice on c3 is stronger!
With 8...a6 Black can reach both a fast development of the Rook in c8 and the opening of the c column.

By the way in Taiko's line
1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 g6 6.Bg5!? Bg7 7.Bb5+ Bd7 8.Qe2 a6! 9.Bxd7+ Nbxd7

he omitted White's 10th move (000 or h4).

After 10.h4 h6 I believe Black is really better
After 10.000 h6 White can play, according to me, 11.Bxf6 Bxf6 12.f4 Rc8 13.Nd5!? trying to justify  the opening

My answer: no. For the reason why, I refer to Teyko's thread on the Vitolinsj Attack. Martin does not mention this line, which is gives Black a lot of fun. Alas he applies this procedure - leaving out good lines for the opponent - in may of his articles at Silman's site.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

I have met this move once, even though I don't play the dragon very often, and I can say it's very interesting. White can easily exchange black square bishop or built up an attack with Bh6, h4, h5 etc. In comparison with the Yugoslav, I felt through the game that even though it was an interesting game with both sides playing for a win, it was not as complex as the Yugoslav. I could even say that the plans were rather simple instead! With only one practical experience and very little research, I would say that this move is very playable, especially if you are an attacking player and you want to surprise your enemy, but if your enemy is a good defender then do not expect too much Smiley

I've just read an article by IM  Andrew Martin in which he suggests 6.Bg5!? as a viable move to cobat the Dragon.
The article is at
http://www.jeremysilman.com/chess_bits_pieces/040216_cmbtng_scln_drg.html

White's  aim is to avoid the theretical struggle of the Yuguslav attack and other well known lines where Dragon supporters are generally well booked up.

I would like to know the opinion of Dragon players on this move.
