Nothing really, it is just a more convenient form.

Edgy: beware, the playable eBooks are in ChessBase form (with a text file and links to the games). Incidentally, does ChessBase work under Wine? .

Ah, that's too bad.  Thanks for the warning.  What material is in the playable books that isn't in the PGN games?

As far as I know, Chessbase does not work inder Wine.

Bondefanger: All the games, and the PGN ChessPub Guides, are now downloadable from the site (in Zipped files).

Ok. I can run it through wine, and logon as guest/guest, but I get an ODBC error message if I try "Find games with comments".

Propably because I haven't setup Wine properly, or rather, the ODBC part. I'm a bit of a newbie. Smiley

Could it just be because you're not a subscriber?

It was a long time ago that I used it, but I can't recall anything special I had to do to make it work.

I remember from when I subscribed a couple of years ago that chesspub.exe works all right under WINE.

I'm also consdiering re-subscribing, by the way.  The "playable e-books" are just PGN, right?

Isn't there any way of looking at PGN games on a Mac? If so you just download all the archives (see 'PGN Games Archives').

So you can get access to all the annotated games on chesspublishing without using chesspub.exe? Everything is downloadable as pgn-files with a browser, once you have subscribed? Nothing is missing?

I've been wondering about that. The chesspublishing page doesn't really say it clearly. At least I didn't find the information.

(I use Linux and is considering subscribing)

(And yes, there are pgn-viewers to the Mac)

Chesspub.exe ist a Windows-program.
You have to run VirtualPC to use chesspub.exe.
I think - any database, which can read pgn-files, will do it

I also can't seem to download the Chesspub.exe software.  Is this a Mac failing or a product of my own technological ineptitude?  If it's a Mac problem, would it be possible to provide a catalog of games somewhere?  I've resigned myself to pouring through old updates and taking notes on the lines I might want to return to.  Is there a more efficient way to do this (without buying a "real" computer  Wink)?
