There was an article on this variation in New in Chess mag.  It was an SOS article by Jeroen Bosch.

An updated version appears in one of his SOS books. (I can't remember if it is vol 1 or 2)

One interesting point that Bosch made was that you needed a good understanding of the Classical, Najdorf, Dragon to play this as it could transpose into any of them!  I don't know about you, but this put me off!

6.f3 is very interesting. But here i can post a personal analysis which improves the black's position as it was played in Topalov-Ivanchuk 1998 (Amber blind-rapid!):

6.f3 e5 7.Nb3 (what if Ndb5?!, it seems unclear to me..)
7..a5 8.a4 Be7 9.Be3 Na6 10.Bb5 Nb4! (here Ivanchuk played 0-0 and his position lost it's dynamism..) and analysing: 11.Bxd7+ Qxd7 12.Nb5 d5! 13.c3 Na6 14.Bg5
(14.Nxa6? Nc7!) 14..dxe4 15.Bxf6 Bxf6 16. Qxd7+ Kxd7
17.fxe4 Ke7 with black planning b6-Rac8-Rhd8 and propably stands better.

5...Ld7 looks very intressting, in never thougt and heard about this move. I am curious to read more about it! Shocked

In the excellent book "experts vs the sicilan" Aagaard recommend to play 6.)f3 intending to play a english attack.

Have you already visited the website of Thomas Johansson?

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 Bd7

Do u have any material about this line to post? Black's plan , as far as i know, is e5 and Bc6 to challenge e4 and make the break d5 possible. Play may  continue as a sveshnikov-like sicilian (if Ndb5 a6 Na3 etc) or if the Knight reatreats to b3 then a5 and if a4 the manouvre Na6-Nb4 and d5. If white stops Nb4 with a3 then Black plays a4 kicking the knight and make the scope of the a-file rook bigger and plays Nc5. But White can challenge all this with 6.Bg5!? which seems to be the main line. Thoughts please?
