In my view Be7 is slightly better than Bg7 in case of d4-d5.

This brings me to the question: why is 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 d6 3.Nc3 Nbd7 4.e4 e5 5.Nf3 g6 not more popular? This move order seems to avoid the Four Pawns Attack and the Sämisch. Pachman calls this Tsjigorin-Indian, btw.

MNb is correct, but the answer to your question is quite simply "yes", although I would enter a caveat that you need to be prepared to accept a slight disadvantage.

It is considered more passive than the King's Indian. Black will be forced to play exd4 at some point. Compared to the Nbd7 lines of the KI the bishop is not so active on e7/f8.
