Hello Chesslover,

I´m not sure that I really understand your problems.

0) Maybe this topic belongs to the "d-pawn specials" section!?

1) Why should 1 d4 d5 2 Nf3 Nf6 3 Bf4 e6 transpose to QGD Bf4 variation (D37) ?! As White´s third move doesn´t fight for the centre Black should think about 4 c4 c5 or 4 c4 dxc4 or 4 e3 Bd6 !?

2) What´s the problem with 3 Bf4 c6 if Black is happy with 4 c4 dxc4! or 4 e3 Bg4 ?!

3) If you don´t like a Queen´s Bishop locked in by e7-e6, why not 3 Bf4 Bf5 ?!

4) As I have written somewhere else I like 3 Bf4 c5 4 c3 cxd with an adventurous Exchange Slav or 4 e3 cxd with an Exchange Caro-Kann .

5) Everything is possible: 3...g6 , 3...a6 , 3...b5   8)

6) But I really do not like 3...Nbd7 .

There are 2 kind of setup involving Bf4 from white's d4 d5 opening:

A. from Queen's Gambit Declined Bf4 variation.
    1.d4 d5 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Nd3 Be7 5.Bf4 0-0 6.e3 c5 and so on

B. from Slav
   1. d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 Nf6 4.Bf4, here Black simple take dxc4 with good version of Slav.

I am Slav player and don't like Queen's Gambit Declined setup (with e6 and Black's bishop block up like variation A), and currently have problem with White's order move like below :

1.d4 d5
2.Nf3 Nf6
3.Bf4 first

if Black response with 3...e6 it will certainly go to kind of variation A setup
if Black response with 3...c6 immediately, didn't it so awkward because of white bishop already at f4, and white doesn't always have to move c2-c4 ?

What are the best response for Black at this point, if he prefer to go kind of Slav setup rather than QGD setup ?

My solution so far is :
1.d4 d5
2.Nf3 Nf6
3.Bf4 Nbd7
4. e3 c6
5. Bd3 Qb6

I need another input from you all.
thanks in advance
