Hi,

I recently played a game with the white pieces in the English Attack where my opponent refused to castle and I found myself soon in a rather unpleasant position since I didn't really know how to launch an attack against his king. The game went like this:
1. e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Be3 e6 7. f3 Qc7 8. Qd2 b5 9. 0-0-0 Nc6 10. g4 Bb7 11. g5 Nd7 12. Nxc6 Qxc6 13. Bg2 Rc8 14. f4 b4 15. Ne2 Nb6 16. Bxb6 Qxb6 17. Nd4 Be7 18. Kb1 a5 19. h4 a4 20. h5 etc. Eventually I managed to win the game, but I think that Black was better in the middlegame.  Can anybody tell me what the standard plans are in these positions? Should I have played f4 and f5 earlier? But wouldn't be f3 a loss of tempo then?
