Both the Old-Indian and Philidor lead to rather cramped positions for Black, but might still be playable.
Black cannot force the Old-Indian after 1.e4, as White usually does not play a later c4.
Typical plans for Black:
The Qe8, Be7-d8-b6(a5) manoevre.
Counterplay on the queen's wing with a6, c6, Rb8 and b5.
Pressure on e4 with Re8, Bf8 and exd4. But especially here the Bf8 is more passive than on g7 as in similar KI positions.

I'd like to see some Old Indian analysis as well.

The Old Indian can serve as a decent all-round defense for Black--and I've often wondered whether Black couldn't enter into against 1 e4 via the Pirc or even the Philidor--but it is a bit passive.  I find the Old Indian rather aesthetically pleasing from a closed position perspective, but it is not the rock that some other defenses are.  Oftentimes, it seems as though Black is desperately holding on and hoping for a salvagable endgame.

Again a new thread and again a request to GM Viktor. A detailed coverage of Old Indian is requested. In fact, this is one of the reasons I chose KID site, but to my dismay there is absolutely no coverage.

I'm particularly interested in Old Indian as an all court defence for anything except 1.e4. This, I thought will supplement my QGD as black. Comments please Kiss
