5. - Nf6 as played by Kharlov against Korotylev is perhaps not the best. Martin only deals with 5. - b5. Here Black seems to be OK.

According to my database, 4. e4 should not pose serious problems for Black.

4 ... Be6 just makes me queasy.  It looks a little schizophrenic or as though Black changed his/her mind midway through the opening.  I'm sure it has some merit, but I agree with Inn2...

Korotylev-Kharlov RusCh'04 is horrifying for black, and should put off most people. I almost fell out of my chair reading this game in NIC magazine. Shocked

White can play 4. e4 too, which Martin didn't deal with. Bacrot - Dao Thien Hai EUR-ASIA '01 was the last game I remember and it seems good for white too.

IM Martin discusses the following line against the Slav, which he calls "The New Slav":

1.d4 d5 2.c4 c6 3.Nf3 dxc4 4.e3 Be6!?

Part 1: http://www.chessville.com/instruction/Openings/Martin/Apr04a.htm
Part 2: http://www.chessville.com/instruction/Openings/Martin/Apr04b.htm

This looks like an ok line for black. Comments? Are there any books on this?
