Perhaps the "trap" is that white players rarely meet the QGA and perhaps don't spend much time learning it...

I read somewhere about a line that can be arrived at by the sicilian or the English... When it comes from the English the white player does much better than when it comes from the Sicilian. i.e. Never underestimate the practicality of knowing an opening versus it's theoretical status. (if you know the opening and the opponent doesn't... -> advantage)

I just got creamed by a QGA last week. It was the first time I'd faced it in a proper tournament.. I hadn't really studied it and self imploded by choosing a sharp variation my opponent knew inside out.

The "trap" is that White thinks he should be better and in fact he is not.
