Looking into the book today I see that Larsen actually gave: 4.g4?!....

Rawsons antidote dxc4! seams to score quite well statistically (however from a limited number of games at Chesslive). Sad

I remember this being an old Jim Plaskett idea.

I think from memory long ago in 1979 , possibly against Federowicz. I think the game went 4...b x g4 5 Qb3 dc 6 Qxb7 Nbd7. I think Black won in about 26.

Anyone able to get the full score   ?

Best wishes

Andrew

Arkhein,

That looks too simple!  Actually I rather doubted that g4 could hold more than one or two tricks for Black to watch out for.  Thanks for the antidote, I'm sure I'll have some students asking about it at some point!

As mentioned in another Grünfeld thread, this is a crazy idea mentioned by Bent Larsen (in his book Chess School series).

Black could easily end up in problems...  Grin

Some variations:
White threatens g5....so
i) 4-, Nxg4 5.cxd5!
ii) After 4-, Bxg4 white wins back the pawn after Db3!. As Larsen mentions, another possibility is Bg2!?
iii) 4-, c6 5.Qb3

Other possibilities?

Is this variation covered in the Grünfeld books or just "forgotten" (maybe for a good reason?).
Are there any refutations?
