Interesting! I too looked at the Siesta recently and thought it was OK (as long as Black avoids getting done over by a piece sacrifice in the main line ...).

I may have an important improvement in the sharp 6.0-0 Bg4 7.h3 h5 line. But I have been investigating the sister-variation, the Siesta (6.c3 f5) for a year now, and found nothing really tempting.

In another thread, Scipio_Rex enthuses about this defence to the Ruy, and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on critical variations.

Of course, there are many move-order possibilities and subtleties. Black can, for example, sidestep various White options by playing 3 ...a6 4 Ba4 Nf6 5 0-0 d6. Emms in NCO gives now 6 c3 Bd7 7 d4 g6 8 Re1 b5[!] [8 ...Qe7?! 9 d5!] 9 Bb3 Bg7 10 de Ne5 11 Ne5 de 12 Bg5 as slightly better for White (is this based on what his book says, I wonder?), but isn't 12 ...h6 13 Bh4 0-0, as ChessPub contends, OK for Black? Keres used to win with this line!

Also, what do people think of the lines with ...Be7 or ...Nge7?
