1.e4,e5 2.Nf3,Nf6 3.Nc3,Nc6 4.Bc4,Nxe4 5.Bxf7,Kxf7
6.Ne4,d5
And now if I remember correctly ,it matters which knight goes to g5:

7.Nfg5+,Ke8!
7.Neg5+,Kg8!

Good for Black: Kxf7 6.Nxe4 d5 7.Ng5+ Kg8. Black controls the centre and has the pair of bishops; the locked in rook is a temporary inconvenience.

The book had the effect good books usually have: it made the stupids more stupid, the intelligent more intelligent and the other thousands of readers remained unchanged.

In the 4 knights, if White develops the Bishop to c4, I, as Black, capture on e4, so that, after the Knight captures, d5 forks B and Knight and recaptures, allowing some development as well. Okay. But in a recent blitz game, after Knight takes e4, my opponent went Bxf7+! This way, White manages to mangle the castling position while allowing Black his equality.

I looked at the line a little bit, and saw that Black did statistically very well in it in the chesslab database post-1991.

So - 1. e4 e5  2.Nf3 Nf6 (wanting Petroff) 3. Nc3 Nc6  4. Bc4  Nxe4 5. Bxf7+

Ideas?
