There is no law requiring one.  Even if there was a law, people could ignore it.

So did the KID & open sicilians. (huge sigh of relief). A great pity many other good posts & arguments might be gone esp on the KG  Cry Some topics in the general section were also really interesting.

The first section, which didn't work was the anti sicilian Forum, I think.

Seems to me that the underlying database got corrupted by a virus or an error which caused some sort of overload.
A doubling of the activity is usually not a sign of more users posting, but an indication that something is wrong in the system.

@Admin
Thanks for the information, I know it is not really fun to be the bearer of bad news, but at least I now know what the problem is and what are the best and worst outcomes.

Indeed a great loss. Ironically the Chit Chat section seems to have survived unharmed.  Roll Eyes

Maybe some of the threads might end up at the different webarchives, in time? Or for a short term perhaps still exist at Google's cache?

Personally, I doubt that only writing long texts could really double the usage from 20 to 40 MB, unless someone was trying to post high definition pictures or mp3s etc.

The crash coincided with a major virus alert so that might have something to do with it...?  Undecided

Btw, if all the messages are gone - how come the system still knows how many posts each of us has made?

I would have thought all of the posts would have been backed up somewhere.  If were starting from this, then this is a great loss!   Cry

Dear Forum Members,

As for the moment, we can tell you that we had a major problem with the server when the activity on the server went double on November 21st, 2005 (40 MB were transfered from usual 20 or less) and got overloaded.

If you have any information that would be helpfull on what really happened, it would be appreciated.

Thank you and hold on,
Admin.

Too many people posting too many long messages, thinking that the length of their messages somehow made them important.  Check the length of some of the recent messages and you'll see who I'm talking about.

Just to inform that posts still seems to be disappearing, or more correctly put, not appear at all.

Dear Forum Members,

Right now the situation is more or less stable since we cleaned up the server. Nevertheless, you should be carefull for the time being.

Major problem we are still working on is a dissapearence of the threads and posts.

Best case scenario - we'll recover them all. Worst case - we'll have only what we have left right now.

Sorry for such an inconvinience but I hope you'll be patient while we'll be working with the server and the system.

If you have any information that would be helpfull on what really happened, it would be appreciated.

Thank you and hold on,
Admin.
