No, it's only 2K. Maybe it doesn't like some of the data in the file.

Can you send the file to support@chesspublishing.com and we will have a look at it.

I have only seen this particular error when the PGN file was too big. Try dividing it into several files smaller than 50kb if this is, indeed, the case.

4c) Downloading of the pgn file in the attachment section.

When I try to attach a pgn it says

"NOTE: If you had an Attachment in your post, you will need to reselect the Attachment again in the Browser Box for security reasons."

And then I re-select and get the same error.

Can't get this to work at all.

Tony - you could contact your server company and ask what happened. Or, if you want I'll resume hosting the file on my server.

Point the link to http://www.jesseo.com/pgn.php and email me pgn.php.

Maybe someone could alert Jesse Gersenson? I think he was the one who generously donated some of his time to implement the chessflash thingy here.

Yes, you're right, I'll send him an email.

Thanks to everyone for playing around with this!  The quote trick is nice, although it does require me to be signed in (I do most of my browsing without signing in).  Even better, the file attachment method solves the problem completely as far as I'm concerned:  When I click on the resulting link the pgn is opened in my analysis program.

Sorry if I got folks concerned about the pgn game files from the subscription area.  Hmm... look like my subscription expired, and I need to renew.  So there was some benefit to  Tony in all this Wink

The best I can do is to "copy link location", paste into a file, and then decode the result.  This is doable, but painful (all spaces have been encoded as "%20", etc.).

I have the same problem as you. However there is a better temporary work-around - press the "Quote" button. Then you see the original pgn text without the %20 etc.

Thanks, nice tip  Cool

Aha, you're talking about the chessflash user generated pgn-files "Download game in pgn format - beta version" - that one doesn't work for me either.

Maybe someone could alert Jesse Gersenson? I think he was the one who generously donated some of his time to implement the chessflash thingy here.

Somehow, I was under the impression that this was about the subscription pgns - until just now when the coin finally fell in...  Roll Eyes

This is my specific problem. I have added the same pgn file in two ways, as a file attachment, and embedding it within pgn markers.

I can download the pgn file attachment at the bottom of my post OK. So the thread title is possibly misleading.

What I can't do is download the pgn from the embedded version of the game with "Download game in pgn format - beta version", and I get the same error message as posted by Charles, "Service Unavailable
Server currently undergoing maintenance. Webmaster: please contact support.
"

I can play through the embedded game OK.

Why can't you just download the pgn file and then open it with your text program? (i.e. right click file, open with)

There is no pgn file to download (this is my gripe).  The pgn data is encoded in the link itself.

If I "save link as" I get a pgn.php file with the html form of the previous server error message I showed.

The best I can do is to "copy link location", paste into a file, and then decode the result.  This is doable, but painful (all spaces have been encoded as "%20", etc.).

It just seems bizarre that a file format specifically designed to be easy to transfer has been transmogrified by the chessflash stuff to the point that its useless as a pgn file.

I have no trouble downloading the PGN files at all, does anyone else have this problem?

Are you "downloading" the files, or are you opening them in the flash viewer?  Turn off flash, try again, and tell us what happens.

I wish to view the pgn using my own analysis program.  I will not use the flash viewer.

No, it is not a cache problem.  Before posting, I tried 3 different browsers (FireFox, Chromium, and lynx).

The data should be presented as "application/x-chess-pgn" somehow.  A SEPARATE link to the flashified stuff can also be presented.  At one point during the process over the past year or so, there was a separate pgn link (I think).

Why can't you just download the pgn file and then open it with your text program? (i.e. right click file, open with)

I am unable to get to see or get to the contents of any pgn attachments.  I get a

"Service Unavailable
Server currently undergoing maintenance. Webmaster: please contact support."

error regardless of whether I'm logged in, have javascript, flash, cookies, etc. enabled or not.  I just want to see the pgn as text to import into my own analysis program.  If the file is a presented as a ".pgn" file, it would automatically open my analysis program.

Previously the pgn was malformed, but at least salvageable.

Why is presenting a TEXT chess file format as TEXT so hard to do?!

[Addendum:  The appropriate MIME type is "application/x-chess-pgn".]

I get the same problem when trying to download the pgn from an embedded game. OK if it's an ordinary PGN attachment.
